buying an impreza

So, my Toyota died about a week ago and I've been eyeing a '95 Impreza L(awd) wagon that is down the street from here. I figgured I'd check out the forum on it having already been a member.

So am I right to assume that what I read in the FAQ is that most Impreza engines are swapable even newer factory engines into the older Subarus?


Also, I'm interested in what kind of potential for modifications a '95 wagon would have. I want it to have a little (a lot) more umph than the 1.8 L is churning out. I know sometimes older cars have less options when it comes to that.
