My girlfriends 96 SOHC Accent has been slugish lately. To remedy this I did three things. #1 Replace plugs and wires, #2 Replace oxygen sensor before catalitic converter, #3 Replace old plugged up catalitic converter with one out of a 98 Chevy Malibu from an auto wrecker. This one is more free flowing than the stock one. The original one became plugged up after it had been running rich for so long from the fouled oxy. sensor. The dimensions of the cat are 2'' diameter pipe, 14'' to 18'' long and it should be a round one not oval shaped, incase you can't find a Malibu. Just thought I would share the news.

I had some intermittent misfire problems and replaced the wires a while back and the plugs. I had noticed a spark ping and a loss of power. My fuel intake was at about 30 mpg hwy city combined. I'm usually about 40 and 34. The engine light came on and I pulled the code and it was indeed the oxygen sensor. Used a can of STP fuel injector cleaner too. I hear that can screw with oxygen sensors but to make a long story short, Engine light went on and I replaced same OS and my mileage went back up to 35 mpg combined and almost 40 hwy. Worthwhile investment. :smokin:
