battery or alternator problems ????jay_w_0 10-17-2005, 04:12 AM Hey There !!!...... I have a 2000 Neon and i am having problems with it. If anyone knows what the problem is or had this problem before please give me some helpfull tips . Anywayz my car has been stalling out but the only time it stalls out is when i turn my lights on or blink my lights while sumtymes driving or starting it up. Also when im driving sumtymes my gauges (mph),(rpm),(gas) and lighting well be messing around ...like my brake, seatbelt, check engine, and ect... those kind of lightings will come on .This only happens once in awhile but now it has been happening very often ....What im thinkin was it may be the bettery but i jus bought a new battery awhile back, jus recently i took my battery in and got it tested and it appeares its still good . So my other thoughts was maybe its the wiring or the alternator ???. When i was getting my battery tested the Mechanic Tech said " it could be the alternator giving up ?"....Even when ur car is running and u disconnect the battery it well not tell whether ur alternator is good or bad ,, cuz now dayz most new vehicles do not have that problem .. ur gonna have to take in ur alternator to get it tested to see whether its good or bad . """.......Also he said " when ur alternator is giving up it over powers ur battery to heat up, leak, and swell up"... but that hasn't happen before but jus now it did when i got back from gettin my battery tested ..... i pop'd my hood open it my battery was leaking, hot, and swell'd up (puffy). .....SO COULD IT BE MY WIRING OR ALTERNATOROR (?????).......PLEASE GIVE ME SUM TIPS IF U EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jay_w_0 10-17-2005, 04:16 AM Alternator, wiring , or battery problems ?? das2123 10-17-2005, 08:27 AM Alternator, wiring , or battery problems ??It could be any of the 3. If your car is cranking right away then that would tell me that your alternator is charging your battery. The lights dimming and other stuff you describe sounds like a wiring issue. Check all your connections and make sure they are clean and tight (and I mean tight!). You may have a bad battery now so get it tested. ticoracer 10-23-2005, 01:17 AM Ur Alternator And Battery Are Goot It Happens To Me Too Trust Me Is None Of Those Is The Gage Face Replace It Is My Suggestion Not 100% Sure Is My Best Suggestion Good Luck. But Dont Replace The Battery Or Alternator Theres No Point On Doing It das2123 10-24-2005, 04:56 PM Ur Alternator And Battery Are Goot It Happens To Me Too Trust Me Is None Of Those Is The Gage Face Replace It Is My Suggestion Not 100% Sure Is My Best Suggestion Good Luck. But Dont Replace The Battery Or Alternator Theres No Point On Doing ItIs that all one sentence? Also, there is no need to replace the gauges. They have no bearing on the car starting or not starting. growe58 10-25-2005, 10:23 PM Just as a warning. NEVER test your alternator by disconnecting the battery with the car running. That worked on pre-computer cars, but a stray voltage spike will fry sensitive (and expensive!) electronics on a modern car. A bad alternator can show up by causing the car to stall if the volatage output is below the miniumum needed by the computer. The fact that this happens when you turn on the lights (e.g additional current draw) tends to point to this. Of course, it also points to a loose wire, particularly a ground somewhere. A failing alternator can also overcharge, damaging your battery as you described. An alternator can be tested and it's health (or lack thereof) determined by a competent mechanic with the right equipment. Sounds like you just need to find one. Good luck! jay_w_0 10-29-2005, 03:03 PM HEY EVERYONE ,,, GOOD NEWZ ,,, my car is back running and it is running fiine.
