Revell tuner Eclipse, Widebodied with Tamiya Basic Putty and Evergreen styrene. My secong attemt at body work, albeit a pretty ambitious one. I am happy with the result....the passenger side is about 90% done and I just started on the driver side. COmments and Criticism please, but try to be kind.....It's my first attemt at full blown body mods.
More proress soon I hope.

it looks fine but its a little meaty, you should keep sanding. Look at top of the flare in the first shot. sand more and let your fingers massage it to a perfect shape and smoothness.

major modifications are fun, and I know you'll pull this off.

Looks good for your first time. I am hoping a majority of that is styrene because I fear you may be disappointed with the Tamiya Basic putty when it comes to paint, and aging.

The fenders look pretty smooth, but a tad bulky as stated above. Also try to keep it uniform. If you look in the third picture, at the top right of the flare there is a little dip. That will stand out when it comes to paint.

So far so good, but I hope these critiques can help you better your work.

I'd like to see more crisp photos, but from what I can tell it's looking pretty good. I don't understand what you mean by "molded in amps". I'm also working on this kit and all I remember being there is a lower section of the floorboard where the seats go.

I see how you are building it now. I hate to say it, but unfortunately that much single part putty will result in a large variety of problems and cracks down the road during and after paint. The alternative is to use a two part putty, or the best way to do it is completely out of styrene.

Good luck!

Bhob73: Thanks...the pics are bad because I thougth tehy were ok but when tehy were uploaded the pics got bigger. Which kit are you building? My kit didn't even come with a rear seat, just a piece with two subs on it.

GTmke400:Really? there is only a thin layer of putty....I constructed the skeleton out of styrene and covered it in very thin layers, then sanded..but if you say so, you have much more experience with putty then me, lol.
Thanks for the comments

Its hard to tell exactly how thick it is in the pics. If it is over 1mm (1/16") thick then it is likely to crack. There is a trick that can save it. Coat it with some cheap dollar store CA (superglue), dont bother with the hobby grade CA for this purpose because it would be a waste of money. Then just sand it smooth. If you used a primer instead of a sealer you will have ghost lines. I reccomend sanding off the primer around the body mods, then spraying the body with some sealer like Zinser BIN (found at Lowes or Home Depot). The sealer will keep the plastic from expanding and the one part putty from absorbing.

If the putty is anythicker than 2.5mm(1/8") then it is going to crack regardless. At that point this project was not a failure, but a wonderful lesson for your next project.

Hope that helps.

Oh.. I think I confused you. I am building the same kit, but what I meant was that I didn't remember there being molded in amps, but now that I look back at my thread, I see that I was mistaken and they were there. At the time I was building it, I didn't think about them being amps. I was just thinking of how I was going to build the back seat.. heh..

Here's my thread FYI. I had to put it on hold for a bit because I had a commission model to build, but hopefully i'll be able to pick it back up soon.
