Hello,
I would like to know what is the job/purpose of the igniter? does it work along with the ignition coil? I would like to know just in case.
according to the Haynes repair manual (1983-1991 camrys) the igniter can only be tested for 1983 - 1985 camrys. their is no way to test an igniter on a 1986 an on Camry. The manual does not mention the job/purpose of the igniter. :banghead:

as usual, any help/info. is appriceated.

Ignition coils charger up energy & release it as a spark. Ignitors tell / feeds the coils the energy & trigger when it is released.
The signal sent to the Ignitor is the dwell ignition signal. A long dwell waveform has the coils charge for longer.

IDK on the gen2's. Techinfo.Toyota.com, pay your $10 & download all the factory repair manuals.
