Tail Gate Cableseamore 10-12-2005, 10:30 AM Having a hard time replace the tail gate cable on a 01 Sonoma. Where it connects to the tailgate itself, it does't seem to come apart! any advice would be greatly appreciated! 2000Sebright 10-27-2005, 04:31 PM It must come off.. so many have had to be replaced. When you figure it out, please post. Need to swap mine out and this time, off to princess auto for some aircraft cable. zzwhjz 01-09-2006, 11:09 AM I am looking for the same information. The cable attaches to the latch bracket with a non removable pin. The replacement cables I bought say to remove old cable and install the new ones. How do they come off??? seamore 01-09-2006, 01:04 PM To remove the old cables, I found out that you have to drill out the pins. Only do this if the replacement ones came with some sort of replacement pins. I also found out that it is recommanded by GM to replace that whole latch assembly which cost about $50.00 each from the dealer. I found some at a junk yard for $10.00. seamore 01-09-2006, 01:11 PM To remove the old cables, I found out that you have to drill out the pins. The replacement cable (from Auto Zone) has a plastic pin with a small metal clip retainer that does not seem like it will be strong enough to handle the load of the tailgate. I will check with another vendor to see if they have a different type pin. Thanks Again vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
