Mazda 3?

Hi,
I may be getting a Mazda 3 and was wondering how much potential these cars have. I would eventually like to get it to run right around the 14 second flat mark. Would it be possible? What do you guys think about this car?
Thanks.

Every car has potential to be a 14 second car - it depends on how much modding you're willing to do. I don't know too much about the Mazda 3 but looking at the stock specs I'd guess it'll take more than the standard bolt-ons to get to 14 flat. You'll have to build the internals (pistons, cams etc...) or go turbo to be that quick.

I drove one back in 2003, at Mazda RevItup. Where you get to test drive all the new vehicles in a autoX environment.
I was stuck in an automatic Mazda3, and I was highly unimpressed by it's performance. The tranny lags with the throttle, there's a good 2 second delay from when you hit the gas to when the motor makes noise.
The motor really was rather gutless, made more noise than it did horsepower. But, I did find the seats and interior nice.
And if I was in the market for a daily commuter. I'd consider a Mazda3. Comfy car with a bit of pep... just not enough to be sporty in my opinion.
I didn't wait in line to drive a 5 speed, didn't see the point really. But I'm sure the 5 speeds are much much more responsive.
On another note, I really really enjoyed driving the Mazda MPV minivan around some cones... all that body roll... ass end loved to sway. ;)

You're right the 5 speed is pretty damned responsive. My manager at work has a new Mazda3 and it's a pretty decent commuter car, it looks good, nice interior, has decent power, and good gas mileage.

Okay, thanks. I may get one and try to stick a turbo on it. It seems like it has a decent aftermarket...

I don't think there is a turbo kit for those is there? If not you're going to have to make your own kit. Good luck to you, not my first choice for an N/A sport compact to work on, but certainly not the worst.

Check out Mazda3Forums.com under the FI section. There seems to be a growing aftermarket for customs as their are quite a few people with a turbo on there.

isn't the upcoming mazadaspeed 6 powered by the same motor but turbo-charged. i'm sure there'll be something coming soon from MazdaSpeed if there isn't already one avalable.

Yeah, the Mazdaspeed 3 will probably be powered by the same AWD 276 bhp turbo 4 that power the Mazda 6. Just wait for that. Probably already a 14 second car, with more potential, since it's factory turbochared.

Supposedly Hiboost has a turbo kit giving out 300 hp. If you can trust Raz_Kaz tho, I mean the dude races fork trucks..

2007 Mazda 3: MazdaSpeed3 performance edition will likely bundle AWD and a 2.3L/270-hp turbo I-4.

I smite the for thy doubts!!!
I was maybe a couple digits off with the 300 but it's still damn impressive!!

The same kit can now be applied to the 6i, 2.3L inline 4 cyl.The results for the 6 are 10 whp less though.
