i have a 98 tacoma making pinging noises under the truck between the motor and the trans. i believe the noise is coming from the fly wheel or the torque convertor. The pinging noise sometimes happens in park while idling. constantly pings or bangs in gear. Could this be the fly wheel or torque convertor? and if is, what can i do to check or repair it. please help! :banghead:

There is no easy way to tell what is causing the problem. Any of the items you mentioned could be the problem or it could be inside the transmission or in some other location. If it is the torque converter or the flywheel/flexplate the transmission will need to come out to make a repair. The longer you wait the more expensive it's to be to correct it.

My truck does exactly what you descibe when I first engage the clutch and drive down the road when he motor is cold, but then it stops after about 100 feet, its been that way for the last 6 years, its a 96 Taco with 198K miles on it, at this point I'm no longer worried about it, it also only happens on very cold days. If I could find out what this is, it would be a mystery solved.
