Rims and Tires for Auto X??Schister66 10-10-2005, 02:15 PM I'm looking at getting a set of 15" Rota Circuit 8's...they are fairly light and look good i think. On my 99 GS-R i have to use a 50 or 55( idk of hand) profile on a 15" rim. Is that going to be an odd size to find a performance tire in if i decide to start Auto Crossing in the spring? And am i going to be able to find a good solid performance tire in that size? PS....this is post 1000 QUICK_EG_B16A 10-10-2005, 03:23 PM Yes I know many companies offer a 195/50/15 or 205/50/15. Based off of what tirerack has to offer you may want bridgstone gforce T/A KD if you won't be driving in wet weather and want the best dry grip available. They're avalable in the 205 size I mentioned. congrats on post 1000 Ace$nyper 10-10-2005, 03:29 PM with what you are listing i'm asuming you want street legal tires I would say bridgestone S-O3 is great. Is this autoX only tire? how much are you willing to spend and how long are they going to have to last? 1000 pfft nooblet =P j/k congrats dimefury 10-10-2005, 03:47 PM i use the falken azenis competition tire, excellent dry condition grip but not really good for wet or snow. also the treadwear is 200, so they won't last long if you are daily driving them. i don't konw what the sell for these days, but when falken was first launching this product line they were available through the tirerack.com for $50 a piece with free shipping . compared to $100+ for any other brand of comp. tire it was a awesome deal. when it comes to auto/x tires, the bigger contact patch you can make -the better, get the widest tire you can fit on the rim without rubbing. Schister66 10-10-2005, 07:01 PM the problem i'm havin is that i have a set of GS webs that i'm tryin to get rid of and i'm thinking of getting a 15" rota circuit 8. I would really like to get something in a 16", but i have a set of 4 GoodYear Eagle RS-A's that are 1 summer old and a set of 2 Blizzak snow tires that were used for 1 winter....i don't really want to have to buy new tires and new rims because im going to get raped on the price of the tires. If i get a set of tires in a 15", they wouldn't be only Auto X.....actually idk...it depends! HELP! SilverY2KCivic 10-10-2005, 09:57 PM I auto-X and tires I've used are ES100's (decent grip, great on the street though) Falken Azenis Sport RT-215 (one of the best handling tires I've owned) and now I currently roll on a set of Hankook R-S2 Z212's. IMO they are the best tire I've owned to date, arguably as sticky as the Azenis Sports, but better that they are more predictable when at the edge. In fact in some situations they seem to stick BETTER than the Azenis. I'm definitely going to be getting these for my "15 race wheels I have which happen to be Circuit 8's. I have the Kooks on my "16 Rotoa Grids right now in a 215/45 size. I believe these tires were developed as a direct competition to the Falkens. Pros of the Hankook R-S2 compared to the Azenis RT-215's: Excellent grip, even at the limit Don't mush when heated up like the Falkens can tend to do (Azenis have a well known chunking and getting greasy problem when hot) 10 times quieter on the road than Azenis Much better wet road handling, stick and hydroplane resist better than the Azenis Much more predicatable Cons: Well I haven't found any yet. CivicSiRacer 10-10-2005, 11:33 PM Well what mods do you have done to your car 1st? Are you stock class? If not then the best tire I've felt are the Falken Azenis (old and new styles). I've driven on the Hankooks Z212s and they are the worst tire for grip. And they squeal like a pig in heat. The best tire size would be 205/50x15" for Civics and Integras. Although I've tried 215/45x16" Azenis on my Civic with lots of negative camber. SilverY2KCivic 10-11-2005, 04:50 AM Well what mods do you have done to your car 1st? Are you stock class? My experience with them has been nothing short of one of the best tires I've experienced. Most members on the Miata.net forums also give them great praise as do sites that sell both the Kooks and Falkens. They may be noisier than the Azenis in the heat, but they won't get greasy or chunk off in the heat like the Falkens. At least in my experience, Falkens are NOT good tires to use for road racing. Even a 50s auto-X course can be too much for them if worked as hard as can be as I've seen before. I think the RT-615's solved most of that issue as that was a big con against the RT-215's which I used to have a set of. my first time I wa at the track they started chunking... My 2nd track event they got so greasy by the end of my runs that they almost all but lost their grip. :uhoh: I mean no kidding! Yes granted the ambient temp that day was near 100F to begin with... I'm guessing the car that had the Kooks (if it wasn't your Civic) had to have not been setup properly at all or the tires were grossly worn, because they are really better than 90% of the tires out there that are DOT legal and right on par even with the Azenis Sports. Schister66 10-11-2005, 08:14 AM Right now i would be racing in the stock class....stock 99 GS-R. I have 15" rims and i'm thinking of getting a different set of rims...Rota Circuit 8's......but another question i have is, are the tires going to be a little squishier since they'd be like a 50 profile vs getting a set of 16's and getting something in a smaller profile? Not if you use to thick tire like the Azenis Sport which is 3-ply or the Hankook which is 2-ply. Most street tires are 1-ply... So if you get either of those 2 tires, then NO it won't be that much squishy. I doubt when cornering if my old Azenis Sports ever rolled over much if any past the actual tread contact area and onto the sidewalls. Of course tire pressure directly dictates how squishy a tire will be. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
