if he can drive and if you know how to launch it will be close, if one of you doesn't know the applicable thing, then that person will lose. Those 2 cars are of similar capabilities, you have the easier job though because that car is fairly easy to launch while the 1.8T is really picky about being shifted quickly or else you lose a lot of boost during shifts.

I have 99 GP GT coupe, it is quicker than most imports from the launch with TC on. I got less gears to go through and no wheelspin during launch. You should be able to take him down.

I agree the GT is quick compared to most stock imports. However, like i said in the post in the GP forum, my guess is if it has a turbo, the car isnt stock. Stock for stock the cars are about even. Mod either, however, and it becomes unbalanced. I always find the 1/4 mile times and 0-60s of cars before i comment on a matchup. The site I use is:

It seems to be pretty reliable in my experience.

2000 was the first year for the 1.8T in the Jetta, my guess is that it is a 2000 model not a 99. Motor Trend tested a 2000 1.8T with manual tranny and got the following results: 0-60 - 7.8 seconds, 1/4 - 16.1

Ya, if thats the case it'll be almost prefectly even. I was just goin by the assumption that he's right and it's a 99.
