Not much of a race story, i know you guys know alot about "sounds"..lol.

I was going to get my bagel, and i was doing 25/30mph cause there was traffic. Behind me i see a guy with hids (atleast they looked like them) turn behind me, and get by my side. I had my system up like half way, so i couldn't hear to much. BUT....

He's beside me, then drops back to my rear fender..then...TSSSSSSSSSSSST. He shot to about 1/2 a car ahead of me. He wasn't trying to race, but i think he wanted me to hear his car-OVER my system.

The car was an eagle talon, i'm pretty sure it was the fwd version, not the awd. I got beside him at the light (many cars ahead of both of us) and told him that car sounds awesome (it did). I told him "what did you do, put a big turbo on that".. He's like "YUP..that's what i did". Ofcoarse he thanked me..

His car also had exhaust (piping shiney/nice muffler-not the fart cans) and gauges on his a-pillar lit up nice. The thing is, was that the sound of a turbo..? Or was it a quick shot of spray..? I think nitrous oxide makes that similair sound...doesnt it..?

PS, what threw me off was no sound of a BOV.. It was just TSSSSSST.. No bov sound after that..unless it didn't have one. Either way that did sound sick. It actually made me jump (seriously) cause it was so sudden right next to me. Almost like when a small block chevy drops to 1st from 3rd at 35mph...that sudden sound of raw power....only this was forced induction.

Best thing i can describe it to was the sound of an air pump...you know when you fill up your tires at the gas station..and you press the middle pin of the air gun (whatever it's called)...that loud sound SSSSSSS.

If it was sucking in air, its a turbo, search for sound clips or something

i'll go w/ turbo, talons have recirc. bov's so at least on my friend's vr-4 its hard to hear it blow off

sounds like what happened to me when i was just messing with what looked like a ricer, i shut down at about 65 while infront and then i hear a wierd air or wooooosssshhhhh sound when he passes, but it wasn't a typical ricer flyby. abd there was no bov

if he added a big fat turbo he should have done the intake. However, the 1g's came with good BOV's that aren't very loud recirculated, even with an intake. But if it was a 2g, maybe he let off the boost before he shifted, I do that alot.

What he said, though the recirc'd stocker on my motor is pretty loud with an air filter.

what would make you think that sound wasn't a BOV?
if he pulled up and let off, that's the exact time a BOV would blow off.

I was confused cause don't forget i was listening to my system pretty loud...and i still heard it. I don't have much experiance with differant turbo's sounds, or bov's.. Superchargers are easy to identify.

Funny thing, my alternator is noisy (brushes rubbing inside) and it sounds like a s/c at idle, but a ghetto one..lol. Alot of times i'll pull into somewhere, and i'll get "is that supercharged"..?

It was neither a turbo nor Nitrous, it was that new E-supercharger. Those things make for the perfect sleepers these days. I gaurantee that was what you heard.

20psi AWD 1st gear is insane too, the vr-4's used to spike really high when it was at 15 and would hit 20, then hit fuel cut, but for that split second it was crazy

A 6k drop in awd running 21 psi is out of this world. :lol:
