Anybody out there have any suggestions for this code???

These are the Details: 2000 Taco 3.4 4X4 SR5 TRD

Check engine light on: Yes
Result of Code Reader: P0420 Catalyst Eff Low Bank 1
Diagnostic results: Bank 1 Sensor 2 : Cat 02 Moves Erratically

When I clear the code it comes back at different intervals, which leads me to believe that it is in fact the o2 sensor after the cat??? Not sure???

If it is, it looks like it runs up into the floorboard under the seat? Any suggestions for replacement?

Any help would be greatly appreciated….

Thanks,

Chuck

with a multi-meter you can test your heated O2 sensor:

there should be a quick disconnect somewhere under the chassis/cab either tied up or one of those "push/plastic" body screws.

disconnect there, and there should be three or four spade or pin type connectors in the terminal port.
one should be labeled "+B" and another should be "HT"
(if not labeled, the connector will have "divets, or plastic blades, so it can only be plugged in one way: one side, blank; directly opposite this side, two plastic guides close together; then the other two sides:
one side, two guides close together; opposite side, two guides, and where the "clip" for the disconnect: make this TOP!
these two connectors on top; left one is (+B), hook the POS+ multimeter
the right one is (HT), hook the NEG- multimeter here.

at 65-70degrees F your ohm reading should be= 11-16
at 1400+degrees F your ohm meter should = 23-32 ohms

if not, replace O2 sensor.

hope this helps,

yea i used to get P0420 on my old car and it was the 2nd O2 sensor. of course i didnt have a cat either so too much airflow can lead to that.
