for some reason i can start up my accord in first or reverse, and the engine doesnt jump and die, I let my cousin pratice on my 96 accord lx since he doesnt know how to drive a manual and when i accidently start the car in first notting happens, how ever like all manuals if its not in neutral when you release the cluth the car dies, im not sure whats up with starting it in first and reverse, i just noticed that it didnt jump a couple of foot and die on me, need to know whats up so i can get my car looked at, just to make sure my transmission doesnt lock on me while im on the highway or driving.

thanks

I don't understand what you're asking. You mean you can start it in first or reverse with the clutch out?

well what im saying is that if your can is in 1st gear and you start it (press clutch, turn ignition on) isint your engine soposed to die on you, thats what im thinking but for some reason my car doesnt do that, so is it fine if your car starts up in first or reverse. thats all i wanted to know

you can start the car in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, R, or N as long as the clutch is in....

If you have the clutch in you should be able to start the car without any problems. The engine can not die or jump unless the clutch is out and in most cases it wont even crank.

What they said...Nuetral safety switch prevents starter operation unless the clutch is fully depressed. If you can start it with the clutch OUT, there's a problem with the NSS. Otherwise, you're fine.
