Pulling DTC's from 95 Monte

Hello all...

I know that on pre-95 GM cars, you can just jumper a few terminals on the diagnostic plug to have the trouble codes flash on the dash. on 96 and newer, you have OBD-II, which you need a hand held reader that is commonly available. However, my 95 Monte appears to be somewhere in the middle. It has the older connecter but not the same pinouts.

Can anyone provide any advice on how to read codes off of a 95 Monte?

Thanks in advance.

You will need to get it on a "real" scanner such as a snap on, they have the proper connections.

maxwedge is right. The '95 Monte went through a middle of the year change over to OBD2. These models cannot be jumpered.

I kinda thought that was the case. The problem is that it is not a standard OBD2 connection. It may not have been built after the switchover. (built 1/30/95)

Is there any way to see if my Monte is really an OBD2-equipped vehicle with an OBD1 connecter?

Thanks for the replies.

I'd suggest calling a GM dealership and asking. have your VIN # ready.
