Not starting 97 Dakota Sport, 5.2l (318)Rahhstah 10-04-2005, 10:34 AM HOwdy, I've been reading these forums looking for a possible solution to my particular problem...and haven't come up with anything that seems to fix the problem I have a 97 Dakota Sport 4x4, V8 318. I had a bad waterpump which I replaced, started the truck to cycle a flush through...and about a minute later the truck sputtered and died. Now, it turns over but will not start. It's getting fuel, and there is spark form the ignition coil to the distributor cap...no spark at the plugs though. Replaced the distributor cap and rotor thinking that might be it -- but still nothing. From the forum...checked Crank Shaft position sensor and all the wires are there -- don't know if it's "bad" or not and didn't replace it (yet). Checked for a few other things... but.. as spark is making it out of the coil to the cap..just not beyond that cap...is weird. Doesn't seem there's anything to tell it to not spark as that's pretty much a mechanical conneciton. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Rahhstah 10-04-2005, 06:15 PM Well, the one thing I bought that I didn't put on was the new ignition coil. Took it to the shop before doing that...and for $66 I find out I should have put that part on. The ignition coil wasn't giving enough energy to make a spark out of the cap thought it could spark at the end of the wire that plugs into the cap. Grrr...shoulda taken the 5 mintues to put on the stupid new coil I'd already bought. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
