Major oil leak!!!swizzle 10-03-2005, 07:21 PM I have a 97 dodge neon and after only 2 months of driving it I've developed a major oil leak. Recently my oil light came on so I added 3 quarts of oil. Within 20 minutes time the oil light was back on again. I put the car up on ramps and took a look underneath. I took off the old oil filter and put on a new one. Then I added a quart of oil, no leak. So I added the 2nd quart and it started to leak. Its on the passenger side between the oil pan and the oil filter. What else could cause a leak this low on the engine with only 2 quarts in it? Is the car worth saving? I paid $600 for it and I'm strongly thinking off getting rid of it. The tranny was also a quart low and the radiator fluid is low as well so I know the previous owner took really good care of it (yeah right). Its been bucking between gears and its an automatic. Should I ditch the car and find another one or try to save a lemon? Swizzle Fractured1 10-04-2005, 07:21 PM did you make sure your old gasket came off with the old filter last change..or possibly a hole in the oil pan...two things to check, neither one lots of $$$$$$$ Fractured1 10-04-2005, 07:22 PM could you be more specific on " bucking between gears", might have a fix there das2123 10-04-2005, 07:27 PM It could be a sensor or a gasket leak. Try putting an oil dye in the oil and trace where the leak is coming from. As far as the tranny goes, what kind of fluid did you put in there? The neon tranny is real sensitive and requires Mopar ATF+3 or 4. Just about anything can and will screw it up. You could also just need to adjust/tighten your kickdown band. Micopser 10-05-2005, 12:57 AM Oil pressure sender is notorious for leaking in older cars !!! das2123 10-05-2005, 02:39 PM Oil pressure sender is notorious for leaking in older cars !!!Not so much on the neon, that I have heard of. swizzle 10-07-2005, 09:47 AM I double checked the oil filter and made sure the gasket was off. It's definately not the oil pan or the filter. Its between the two and slightly higher. The oil pan is definately clean as well as the filter. I don't know what to say about the tranny other than it doesn't respond like it should. I hit about 35 mph and it doesn't shift like it should. It continues to climb until I let off the gas and then it kicks into gear. The slower I go the more pronounced the bucking is. If I get the vehicle up to speed fairly quickly it will sometimes shift smoothly like its suppose to or it just bucks mildly. It has gotten consideraly worse in the past month. Swizzle Fractured1 10-07-2005, 03:21 PM sounds like its yor tramp down cable and linkage...remove the battery and battery holder and lube and clean the linkage..adjust the cable and hopefully that will take care of the tranny problem vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
