fuel problempurice 10-03-2005, 05:59 PM At high speed(over 100) or sometimes at lower speed (third or fourth gear) my 2001 Neon is sort of stalling. Check engine is flashing and pressing throtle feel like the fuel pump is dead RPM is not going up and at one time I had to stop for 15 min. I I am going under 100Km/h and dont accelerate fast I can go even a week without problem. I don't know if this is a coincidence but all these started a week after I did a fuel line cleanup at Mr. Lube. Went to Chrisler and they fix the spark plugs gap. I paid $160 for that even that I've fixed the gap two days before(air filter too). Still doing that thing. I went back to the dealer and now he wants to change the fuel pump for $600 with no waranty that this will fix the problem. I said @#$!^%& !. No more dealers! Can I have some help on this please. das2123 10-04-2005, 07:31 PM I have a couple of questions: 1)What kind of spark plugs do you have in the car? 2)Have you tried running a can of fuel injector cleaner through your car? sheetmagnet 10-05-2005, 12:14 AM I have a gew questions: 1. They charged you $160 to set the park plug gap? 2. Did they absolutely gaurantee you that it was indeed your fuel pump? Speed (above 100km/h - 60mph) is not necessarily the kicker... it's your RPM's... is there a certain RPM or gas-pedal pressure limit where the car will fall flat on it's face? 3. When you first start the car, how long can you run it/drive before you notice a problem? 4. Is your temp gauge reading normal, and have you ever had any coolant problems? Micopser 10-05-2005, 12:54 AM Have you tried the fuel filter ? Micopser 10-05-2005, 12:55 AM Have you replaced the fuel filter ? purice 10-05-2005, 12:04 PM So : -I did use fuel injector cleaner (Dura Lube $18) on two 35l fill(one bottle each) - I had the fuel sistem cleaned at MR. Lube a month ago. By the way - my problem start after that. Could be that something they put in the gas tank have damaged the fuel pump so it is not working in parameters. -I have changed the spark plugs with new ones(K&N) -At The garaje they told me that there is no fuel filter outside the fuel tank. It is a sort of filter in the fuel tank with the pump. And no they did not offer any guaranties that it is a fuel pump problem. - The $160 for fixing the gap on the spark plugs was $80 for diagnosis and $60 for labour + tax - Temperature reading is normal now but sometime in the summer did go high ocasionaly(no reasons just hot outside) - I think too that is a RPM problem because if I don't go over 110Km/h or 3500 RPM it is not happening at all. - This morning going at work on highway I tryed again. At around 100Km/h and 3000 RPM - fifth gear(when passing another car) the Check engine light start blinking when I pressed the gas pedal. Nothing happened. NO GAS - like the fuel pomp died. I had to stop. For the next 10 min my car did not want to start eather. After 10 min it did start and worked OK but I was driving easy(under 90Km/h and keeping it under 3000RPM) - Could be any sensors or computer problem? neon_rt 10-05-2005, 01:44 PM Sounds like the Cat could be plugged. purice 10-05-2005, 02:29 PM Can you tell me what is that and how can be fixed please? Excuse my ignorance! das2123 10-05-2005, 02:38 PM Can you tell me what is that and how can be fixed please? Excuse my ignorance! That would be your catalytic converter. If it is clogged you would just have a shop replace it with a good one or buy your own and have a shop weld it into place. That being said, I doubt that is your problem. Sounds like the Cat could be plugged.I doubt it is the cat. They rarely go out on a neon and you would be getting a Code 77 for the cat converter failure. The spark plugs you bought, K&N, are not platinum plugs are they? You could have a failing or stuck EGR valve. You say your check engine light was blinking, did you read your codes and see if there are any? purice 10-05-2005, 04:36 PM That would be your catalytic converter. I am starting to think that it still can be the fuel pump. I remenber that one night when I got home I heard something very vague like a: tic,tic,tic.... from the back of my car but I could not pin point it and because the car was parked only idling I thought it was something in the mufler sao I've preety much ignore it. das2123 10-05-2005, 05:04 PM The spark plugs are platiniumLose the platinum plugs. They are horrible for neons! This has been proven over and over again. Use the stock plugs! sheetmagnet 10-07-2005, 12:53 AM Lose the platinum plugs. They are horrible for neons! This has been proven over and over again. Use the stock plugs! I switched to Bosch +4 Platinums and 89 octane (got a few other simple mods too), and I was actually pleased with the results... of course I'm just one person though. I tried burning 87 in it and noticed a decline in power, especially below 3500 RPM... went back to 89 and all good again... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
