I have had two accord 90lx automatics that fail to recognize park when its cold. when put into park it clicks but i am not able to take my key out until the light on the dash comes on. jerking the wheel seems to help it catch quicker, starting the car again and such doesnt change anything, and when taken to a transmission place they replaced the shifter cable and still no good came of it. any ideas?

also, when its cold, the transmission will slam into reverse. such an awful sound. as with the problem from above i have to wait for the dash light to come on orelse the car seems to be in neutral. once it is finally in reverse, i loose power steering for a bit.
the transmission is obviously going, but what can i do to make this car last any bit longer. i cant afford another car!
any help would be greatly apreciated. thanks so much.

First problem-you have a dirty shifter selector switch. It is on the center console and detects what position the shifter is in. Remove the center console cover and you will see the white selector switch on the left side. It is a slide switch which can be cleaned while still in the car. It comes apart and you can clean the contacts, especially the one all the way forward (park position). You can put some anti-corrosive grease like deox to keep the brass contacts from oxidizing.

After you do the first fix, see if that solves the second problem. If not, get back to us for solutions.
