Hey all, my names Morgan.

I just recently got into the whole RX-7 Life style and I love it, I have my buddy to thank for that, he owns a 1986 RX-7 red and is a work in progress.

I am currently looking at buying both a 1986 and 1988.

Today when I was about to take my buddies car out for a rip, had to get some stuff from town. I noticed his car wouldn't start. Well, not so much wouldn't start but something to that nature.

I cranked it over, it started then stalled out as it was really cold this morning, so I tried again, still didn't fire. So I let it sit a few minutes before trying a third time, this time it didn't do anythig, sounds like the starter solenoid might be gone but I am not too sure. Is there any other way to check to see? Has anyone got any other ideas as to why it won't it crank? I'm totally lost here as I don't know much about Rotary's. If someone could give me a hand that would be totally awesome.

As for the 2 RX's that I am looking at buying Neither of them run, which is okay for me as I want a project car. What one do you all think would be a better one to get going again? The 86 is a 2+2 and has the sunroof. The 88 is the 2 seater with no sunroof. Both are in decent shape. I am looking for upgrades, body kits, exhaust, clutch kits. The whole works. If you wouldn't mind helping a newbie out that would be totally awesome.

Would I be better off going with the Turbo Motor or Non Turbo? Or should I get them both going, one turbo the other non?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks.

Morgan

Well from the sounds of it you have ALOT of money to be throwing around here.
So i say do 20B's in the both of them. One Na one turbo :P:P

As for the not starting, well ti coudl be MANY things. But a common thing in the cold is that the motor will flood if it is not fully warmed up. If the car is on a hill try to bump start the car. It should go. If it dosent then there may be a bigger problem than just flooding.

If there is just a click noise comming from the engine then the started may have packed it in (common thing with RX7's as they get used ALOT more than your average car).

Alot of money? I have a fair amount, as I want to keep these cars on a budget, I plan on doing most the work myself, and will be a long term project.

There's not even a click comming from the starter though. So that's why I figure it's packed it in.

I was thinking with the 1986 to go with the 13b Turbo. The 88 with just the NA 13b.

This starters got me boggled thou?

Well pull the starter from another 7 and give that a tray. Or bump start the car. If it starts that way then it is the starter that is the issue.

If this is your first experance with rotaries i sugess you leave the engine building to someone who is more experanced. It seems simple but trust me, its not.
There are videos and books out there that take you through step by step on a rebuild, but they sometimes leve something to be desired.

PS budget RX7's tend to turn into "FS:Project car" :P

Well we figured out that the starter is the issue and it's 190buck for a new one.

I don't plan on rebuilding the Rotories myself, as I can pick up a Turbo 13b for 2600 or so. I have to talk to the guy who sells them around here.

Any good mods for these motors?

FS would be a Forsale project car?

I was told by the guy selling them, that the 86 was a better one to rebuild.

That's what I was told, and personally I like the 88 better, simply because it's just a 2 seater. But, I don't know fully what shape that 88 is in, that's why I am a little hesitant on wanting to redo it.

Useless is always a good thing in a 2 seater car, Useless remove the unwanted weight, but, the car is stupid light as it is for it's size.

Isn't it?

I mean my buddies with a full tnak of gas and a 200lb driver, weighs in at... 1250kg's

that it is.

But the car will gain some weight from all the Stereo Equipment going into it.

Well then thats going to be your fault for putting that stereo bullshit in there. Sorry, I guess its just not my style. I think that if your gonna do that shit, buy a domestic and put some chrome wheels on it along with your stereo. I guess it just depends on what you want more, show, or go.

I got no issues with my car gaining 200lbs in stereo. That is no issue with me, as I like to beable to show and go. It's what I like, and what I want.

I know 200lbs is a lot, but it won't actually be that much weight going into my car, and thanks. I will.
