Corvette C5-R Le Mans 2001

Does anyone know if you can use the Corvette C5-R Photoetch Set from SMS that is designed for the Revell - Corvette C5-R 2001 Daytona 24 Hour with the Corvette C5-R Le Mans 2001.

Both kits look to be the same.. Normally don't bother with Revell kits, but this build is going to be a gift for someone I know that loves this car..!! Just got the kit - revell kits are well cheap..!! £8 from a shop in town, and the kit contents looks to be pretty decent..!! surprise for a revell actually.. Plastic seems OK as well.

anyhow, if the P/E sets work for this kit, as this kit looks to be the same as the daytona then happy days, as I'd better start building this now if I plan on giving this as a Christmas present..!!

There will be some pieces that won't work. But I'd say about 90% or more of the detail set will work with either kit.

Cool... Just been taking a look at the parts with this revell kit, not all that bad actaully, but why have the hood fixed with a full engine? Doesn't make any sense..!!

See your vets, looks like you managed to open the hood. How did you manage to cut around the front windscreen? Seeing as this is a present would be nice for the person getting it to see the engine..

It's for my bro, huge corvette fan and he's been bugging me all year to build one for him..!! He doesn't know I'm building this, amd I want it to be a superb detailed build..

Both of the kits are the same with a couple of exceptions. The bodies are different. The LeMans car actually represents the 1999 silver/black version of the car. The 2001 Daytona kit represents the late 2000 up to late 2002 body work. The major differences are in the hood area with the 1999 only have small slots and the 2001 having a large exit hole for the radiator air. Other differences include the fuel fillers, rear inlets/piping for the oil/transaxle cooler, windows, and some other small parts to make the body work with the older chassis.

If you want to use the SMS set, go ahead as it looks like you will be able to use everything except the some of the mess inlets. If you need some reference help or want to know something else about the what is what, let me know as I ended up compiling a lot of info and pics while I've been building my 2001 Daytona version. BTW, if you want to make the hood come open without all the hard work, Harold Bradford at Historic Racing Miniatures sells two versions of the body with opening hoods. His sets also include a way to make the wing sit higher. Be forewarned though as you need to make sure you get either the 2001 or 2002 transkits. There are a couple of differences particularly in the location of scoops and inlets.

it is resin. I had one transkit in my hands and then decided to cut out the enginecover of the Revell kit. Kit is finished 30 %, here is a pic:

The HRM (Historic Racing Miniatures) transkit is resin but Harolds Bradford's castings are fantastically clean. I'm not sure what resin he uses but it is some of the most plastic like I have seen and he has told me it is a special type of resin. BTW, Harold also makes the correct wheels for 2001 as a separate item. I have a set here but its not up on the webstore at the mooment. Add the SMS PE and templated CF decals to the HRM itams and you would have what you are looking for.

I am out of stock of the Scale Designs transkits and I'm not sure if I can get more. I will have to check with them.

another idea is building the 2004 LeMans Version with the recently available Scale Production transkit (www.scaleproduction.de -> Motorsport).

I have the transkit here - absolutely great !!!
