My 1987 4runner has a AT that starts off in high gear, but will manually shift thru the gears. I also have a thermo time switch broke are they related? And what is it for? Thank you in advance.

The thermostatic time switch controls how long the cold-start injector adds fuel after a cold start. It has no relationship to the transmission that I can see.
