Decided to start a progress thread on a project I've recently started, and I intend to update it this time :grinno: . I'm building the Kremer Porsche 911 GT1 from the '97 Le Mans 24hrs. The base kit is the Tamiya 911 GT1 works car from the previous year. Decals are from Renaissance, C/F decals are from SMS.

Instead of being a straightforward decal swap, I decided to detail this model a bit. The engine has been completely carbon fibred in every place you'd expect to find X-18 on a stock kit. I hope to wire it aswell, using some of the reference pics I have. I could have opted for a P/E set but instead bought one for an upcoming project I have lined up.

A pic showing the real car run by the privateer Kremer team in the 97 LM. The car retired on lap 207.

Here is the transkit from Renaissance. The also provide a sheet of carbon fibre to fit around the windscreen. I'm not sure if I'll use it because I've been using SMS c/f so far which has a different weave pattern.

Here's the only progress pic so far. This is the engine nearing completion. All of the greyish black parts have been given the c/f treatment, although it's hard to make out in the photos.

More soon :grinno:

Your wright, it is all CF, but some later raceteams painted the real parts.

I've managed to make some progress, although it's going slower than expected. I managed to get the body ready for the decals. First it was primered, then I used TS-26 Pure White for the colour. Then I used F1 specialities polishing system all over followed by Tamiya compounds. Now all that's left is decals and wax.

The engine has taken up most of my time. Using the c/f decals is tedious and stressful work sometimes, although I'm happy with the result. As you can see in the pic all the black areas are SMS c/f decal that I cut myself. I've also started to wire the engine using the reference pics I have, not quite finished the wiring yet but I hope to soon so I can finally start on the cockpit :grinno:
