Saleen S7 - WIP

Hey guys... started this last night. I still have rims, headlights and some tweaking to do. :)

I think a varied line would help it.
Thicks and thins really give a drawing some life.

I used to have a huge set of those Prisma colour pencils that you use, sure wish I still had them. Your work is beautiful!

I would've chosen a better color for the S7.. it just doesnt look good against the white background.. but aside from that, very nice job on the whole thing.

Yah - it's going to be part of a collage type thing though, so it won't be on white. Thanks. :)

maybe a yellow would've worked better for that. but it's still cool!

I do a weekly piece for an automotive features syndicate, write the text, then come up with the drawings. This one was on the Saleen - how it came to be, etc. I usually complete them in two evenings - I work full time at a daily newspaper and also freelance as a journalist so I don't have as much time as I'd like to perfect my drawings.

Sounds like a very busy schedule, do you get any opportunities to test and do vehicle write-ups?
Do you take your own reference pics too?

Thanks for the compliments! Yes, I book different vehicles every week, and go on press launch trips. It's extremely busy, but I love it.
I use my own photos for car reviews and features, but with the Legends feature (such as the Saleen piece) it's hard to gain access to cars that are very rare, or designers/drivers who are no longer around, so I use a combination of pictures found on the net. Sometimes I get lucky - managed to get closeup pics of the GT40 for a piece on that.. and interviewed Ron Fellows for a story and was able to use my own photos later for an illustrated piece.

dude those are bad. have you ever done one on bobby isaac. if so id like to see it. just wondering tho.

No I haven't but that's a good suggestion - might end up doing Smokey Yunick so he may end up part of that.
