97 plymouth voyager se plroblemmakitaman 09-26-2005, 06:53 PM i have the 3.3 motor with ac cruise tilt pwr locks and windows. problem im having has been ongoin for a yr. the van runs fine never broke down. but after a long distance of travel and gets up to normal tempature (say an hr of constant driving)the fan will come on and continuosly run and can feel tranny bucking. and anytime u start the van the fan comes on wont stop but if i remove neg from batt for a couple min. the system resets and all is fine again. has about 126,000 miles on it. any ideas would be great. i still owe on the damn thing need to get another yr outta it lol. npye 09-27-2005, 04:08 AM Thermostat. At least that's what it was for me. Mine needed replacing. This was happening on my 97 Caravan Sport with the 3.3. Driving on the highway in November, the cooling fans would come on and not turn off, even though the temp guage was almost at C. When the fans are running, the engine seems to remain in 3rd gear until a higher speed (RPM) to compensate for the power required to run the fans (especially if your AC is on). I noticed the same, the transmission shift points are definitely different when the cooling fans are running. Once the fans kicked in, they would stay on and would not turn off until I powered off the engine. And then, I could start it back up and they would come on right away again. If I left it sitting off for a few hours, things would go back to normal (engine cooled down enough). Anyway, I know these thermostats are easy to change, but I had the dealer do it and it wasn't an expensive fix. Again, that's my best guess, I aint no mechanic. Hope this helps. makitaman 09-27-2005, 05:23 AM thanks for the reply. i have installed a new water pump and thermostat 2 months ago. this must be something else. makitaman 09-27-2005, 05:25 AM and doesent matter if i let it sit over night the fan still comes on when u start it. npye 09-27-2005, 01:45 PM Another thought I had at the time (before I knew it was the thermostat) was that it could be the "fan control relay". Search this forum for this part and you will get a number of hits. It sounds like an easy fix. Again, I'm only basing my suggestion on research, not on knowledge. vipergg 09-27-2005, 08:01 PM and doesent matter if i let it sit over night the fan still comes on when u start it. also when you are testing this make sure you don't have the AC or defrost on as this will tend to have the fans on most of time when the compressor cycles on and off. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
