Not sure I follow. The rear wheel is off the car and the dyno is coupled to the axle. Also, the rear wheel would be at the top of the picture, relatively speaking. The front wheels are at the bottom of the picture and only the car's right front wheel is visible. So I am a bit confused...what am I missing?

What's different about the rear wheel?
Where is it visible in the picture?

Window banner seems to say F1 LM only..?

What are you talking about? They're using a Dynapack (http://www.dynapack.com/), which measures the horsepower at the hub and not the actual wheel. There's nothing really wrong with the picture that I can see. They just have the rear jacked up a bit to let the rotor reach the Dynapack.

Yup, that seems to be right! I can't spot anything weird at the moment either.... :headshake

What are you people talking about??? Maybe I need glasses but I dont see anything anywhere!

The LM Prototype - chassis XP1 LM - has always worn a sticker identifying it as such on the lower side skirts just ahead of the rear wheels. I have highlighted and circled it in this cropped version of the image:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/temp/McLaren_F1_LM_dyno1.jpg

Another clear sign that this is the prototype is that it has the four small holes along the top edge of the rear quarter windows. The other two LMs we have photos of - LM2 & LM3 - lack that feature.

I was poking around the Thor-Racing website this evening and found 6 more images of XP1 LM there. :naughty:

Wow! These pics are very, very nice. Good going Erik!

First I was thinking it must have been pics from the first years and they were testing power and stuff like that. But it must be fairly 'recent' with the SLR accompanying it in the trailer.

Very interesting container...I think I have figured out what it's used for. Anyone care to guess?

Also, any guesses as to which country this pic was taken in? I think I have that figured out...will tell you in 24 hours, but first I want to hear what others are thinking and why.

Thanks for the pics, btw, they're great!

It's fairly obvious looking around the Thor-Racing.co.uk website that the pictures of the LM were taken inside and outside their facility. According to this map on their website it is located here:

http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/images/map1.jpg

There are pics of their building and parking lot on their site and the bricks on the ground in those match the ones in the shots with the LM.

As for the "container" - I think it's actually a car carrier with a compartment that rolls backwards to meet the ground. I have seen photos of them before.

While not an exact match, as this one has a ramp to the ground, this trailer has similar ramps inside.

Thanks for the pics Erik! Does that diamond plating around the exhaust come on all LMs or just XP1? It's the first time I can remember ever seeing it...

Maybe you are kidding??

That area of the bumper is shiny black metal, and the diamond plate pattern you are seeing is a reflection from the floor of the trailer.

You're quite welcome for the pictures.

Found a shot of what I was referring to with the above statement. This one is uncovered of course, and lacks the provisions for the second car, but you can see what I meant at least:

OK, Peloton, you are the uber detective! I should have said, what if someone saw the pic but didn't know the source?

My observations/deductions:
There is a partial European plate visible on the car that is parked in the background. So, you could safely assume this was in Europe--most likely England because of the known locations of LMs.

There is a bit more to the container...it's actually quite cool because of how modular it is. It can go on a truck, of course, and efficiently and safely store two cars, but the cool thing is that the dimensions are perfect for fitting inside a shipping container. So, you pack the car in this, and then roll the whole thing right inside a shipping container. You don't have to worry about the stevedores messing your car up. They just deal with the container as if it were a box.

The other cool feature is that it allows the car doors to be opened, this is very important because now the car can simply be driven inside. With a regular shipping container, once a car is inside, the car door can only be opened a few inches--it really is very difficult to drive a car in or out of one. Instead, you have to push it in or out, and squeezing past a car in a container to push it out often leads to the car getting damaged. Plus, it is awkward to access the straps and untie the car in the dark confines of a trailer. Further, to have two cars stored in a container, you have to make all sorts of things out of wooden blocks and planks, and it's expensive, time-consuming, unsafe, and inefficient.

This "cartridge" approach is very nice, and makes shipping cars a breeze. You can pretty much unload the container at the dock so you don't need to go back and return it to the shipping company. And the inner cartridge can go right onto a truck. Further, once it is offloaded from the truck, both cars can simply be driven out--you don't need ramps or forklifts. :)

I think we've deduced that these pics were taken at their facility. Erik even posted a map of where it is

What I meant was, suppose you didn't know where the picture came from. Then, what clues were there in the picture only. Assuming you didn't have access to the website where the pics originated, or any other information except that contained within the picture itself.

Peloton is the uber detective because he he figured out so much information, as he always does.

Well if anyone would have done any photoshop work on it, likely that would have been me. I didn't make any changes to it though, so I'm curious what part of it looks to have been altered? All the images look the same to me.

ERYeah, I hate how people throw around the word "photoshop" and use it to mean "fake" or "hoax," without providing any evidence.

Of course it's been "photoshopped" or manipulated -- how else would a person get the text on there?

hehe good to see you found this stuff. I've been dying to say something but have had to bite my tongue until stuff became public knowledge.

I was present during this test at Thor Racing which is indeed in England. We were lucky enough to borrow the prototype from McLaren for this test. As you have also discovered we had the SLR there too.

All I can say at the moment is that this test directly relates to this thread I posted a few weeks ago:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=454428

Sorry to be so secretive but I am bound by strict confidentiality - hope you understand :)

I would definitely call that lucky.

I had a feeling that this related to a video game too. :sunglasse

I sent an email to Peter Betts @ Thor inquiring about more info. Hopefully he'll be able to share something once the ban is lifted. ;)
