1994 Sonoma 2.2L Low power.....Minion 09-24-2005, 06:04 PM Hi Folks, I just Bought a 1994 Sonoma with the 2.2L automatic ,The Truck only has 80,000KM on it and Looks practicly Brand new and it Runs Fine when Driveing under 60Km/h but when I take it on to the Highway the Truck struggles to make it to 100km/h and even the Slightest Little Hill will slow it down to a Crawl... I don"t know if all the 2.2L Sonoma"s are like this but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to Increase the Power of the Engine without spending an arm and a Leg?? ThanX PS: The Truck is Missing it"s Tail Pipe (It has a Mufler there just isn"t a Tail Pipe going from the Mufler to the Back of the Truck) Could this Cause such a Lack of Power when on the Highway?? Harley72 09-24-2005, 10:31 PM A missing tail pipe would not cause this. The first thing I would do is make sure your plugs and wires are good (if you have owned it for a while you should know how long it has been but still look to see if they are bad. If you just got the truck then I would replace them anyways as this is the first thing I do to every auto I buy. Make sure your air filter is clean that way you know it's getting a good air flow. Check your brakes and make sure they aren't dragging and causing the the engine to be bogged down. Give it a good tune up and go from there. Hope this helps. mike1224 09-25-2005, 12:30 PM hmmm you should be having trouble getting to that speed (62mph) {sorry but its easier for me to see it in american units}. Get new spark plugs and wires. Its a little expensive but get an FIPK air intake system. I paid $300USD for mine, notice more power on higher end RPM's, but am getting better fuel milage out of each tank. side note: thats extremely low milage, i think thats about 49,000mi mike1224 09-25-2005, 12:36 PM anouther thing before i forget, do you put it in "D" or "3", most areas "3" is All i use. i've been to speeds over 75mph (120km/h) in third, and engine doesn't seem to be "racing" Minion 09-25-2005, 05:19 PM Well This Truck has a D Gear and an OD Gear.... The D Gear will get me to about 60km/h but any faster and the Engine Revs really High, when I put it in OD I get an extra Gear but the extra gear is Pretty Gutless as any Little Hill Makes it Kick back into D (Or 3rd I guess).... Yes the Truck has very low Mileage for a 11 year old truck, Most Trucks Put 80,000k on in the First 2 or 3 years ,I paid $5500 Canadian for it because of the Low Mileage and the Body looks Like it is allmost Brand new with no dings or rust..... Well Thanx Guys I"ll Try changing the Plugs and the Air Filter and see if that helps..... ThanX Harley72 09-25-2005, 05:22 PM make sure you change them wires along with the plugs. If one is bad and the other is good, it ain't gonna help much. Also, the OD shouldn't be used unless you are in cruising mode with out any big hills. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
