Motegi Rims

I'm thinking about getting 17's on my RSX. Anyone know much about Motegi Rims? Good, bad, too heavy? I know a guy at work that sells them and might be able to get them at a good price since there's no shipping involved.

I was looking at the teflon black LC5 series 2322 - http://www.motegiracing.com/wheels/details.asp?wheelid=54&name=LC5%20Teflon®%20Black&pic=2322&style=2322&desc=&section=.

I also just got my windows tinted 35% and thought these rims would complement the tint nicely.

Comments and flames are welcome. The flame is mostly for crazy since he loves that Aiken so much!

I'll probably put summer tires on these and put the stocks on during winter. Yeah, I know you Canadians are jealous. We have summer down here in the lower latitudes! :iceslolan

they might be a little heavy but they look good IMO.

I think those would look really good against the Satin Silver, mmontO.

BTW, are you able to post pics of the tint job? Want to get mine done soon, too. How did it turn out around the black peripheral coating on the back windows?

I have to say the tint looks good. I'm really picky about everything so I saw a few things that probably doesn't matter to you.

There are some spots around the black coating on the back windows, where the little circles are, that didn't stick as well as it should have, but you can only notice when the sun hits it at angle. Also, at night, the defogger lines seem to reflect the lights up and down giving a diffraction looking pattern. You'll really have to get used to that.

I'm actually quite happy with the job they did. The 35% looks nice with the silver color. If you tint any darker, it'll probably not look too good IMO.

I'll try to post pics when I can.

I've been reading up on it. Alot of tinters advise against tinting over those dots, but I've spoken with some owners who've done it and they say it looks great. Just havent actually seen the finished product. I am totally anal (no Clay Aiken jokes) about the car, so I don't want to take any chances. And I figure if 35% looks good on SS, it'll look good on DSM...

I have a 35/20 tint on my car....looks good. The tinter did tint over the matrix dots and didn't have any problems...

A lot of people say a good tinter can tint over it.

Hmm, 20 on the back windows, hey? I wonder what you do in the back seat? Probably play those Aiken CD's and start dancing so no one can see you back there! :iceslolan :iceslolan :iceslolan

S777 - I just like the 35% because it doesn't make the car too dark. If you get it darker, it might look just as good. Just look at the difference in crazy's front and back windows. Also, once you put the sunglasses on, it makes the tint seem even darker.

If you want it for security, say you have a killer stereo or DVD or PS2 ... installed, I would probably go darker. In my area the legal limit is 35, so that's what I asked for. There was a lighter tint, but it was too grayish in color. In Canada, with the reflection of the Sun in the snow, the darker, the better, I would think.

With the 35/20 tint you can't really tell its a mixed tint and its about the darkest you can go before cops give you troubles. Depending on the lighting you can even see quite a bit through the 20%.

Its because we're so fast and cool that the time that'd normally be spent in trying to figure out to what to do to the car to make it decent gets spent elsewhere :D

Alright, I've been doing some research and can't seem to get the hang of this tire/wheel thing.

Apparently, tirerack recommends 225/45R17 tires for 17"x(7-7.5") wheels. Since 225 mm = 8.58", how can you fit an 8.58" on a 7-7.5" rim? Wouldn't that cause problems? I read somewhere that your rim width should be no less than 90% of the tire width. So in this case, you would need at least a 7.72" rim. Very confusing! :banghead: :banghead: :screwy: Is my math wrong somehow?

The stock tires on an 02-04 TypeS are 205/55R16. So the width is 8.0708".

I did find that the ASpec wheels are 17"x7.5" with the 225/45R17 tires. I guess if this works I should get what is recommended at tirerack.

I would have thought that for the 225/45R17 you would get a 17"x8" wheel?!

If you guys can clear up all this confusion, I would really appreciate it! :bigthumb:

When you're in the nude, you just don't slide around on the leather seats so much during high G turns. But I perfer to listen to :naughty:Shakira:naughty: when doing so...

Hmmm, I'm not saying that you should ignore the 90% guideline, but my lowered Camaro has 15" x 7.5" wheels with 235/60R15's in the front and 245/60R15's in the back and I haven't had any problems, besides the tires rubbing when turning the steering wheel all the way in one direction.:2cents:

Oh, man! Finally someone who has some taste in music! I actually do have her blasting in my car. :bigthumb: No joke. AND, all I can think of is her video every time I hear her songs! She has small breasts, so you don't confuse them with mountains!!!! :grinno: :grinno: :grinno:

Sorry mmont0, I honestly can't remember the tires sizes for the life of me right now....

Actually, I gave motegi(a.k.a american racing) a call and they said that it is recommended that a 225/45R17 tire be used on the 17"x8" rim. It seems that you can actually mount this size tire on a 17x7.5 or even a 17x7 wheel. It just has more rubber on the edges. I would think you'd want the extra stiffness that the 17x8 wheel gives.?

My original choice weighs 16.5 lbs and I found some others that only weigh 14.5 lbs. I'm leaning toward the lighter wheels now- http://www.motegiracing.com/wheels/details.asp?parent=52&wheelid=53&name=TRAK_LITE%202%20Glossy%20Black&pic=2318&style=2318&desc=
The 17x8 does fit the RSX with the 225/45R17 according to Motegi.

The guy at work has really good deals on these motegi rims. Cheapest I've seen on the internet. Let me know if anyone might be interested and I'll send you the link to his site. I don't know if I can post it here since it might be deemed a form of advertisement.

S777 - Sorry I haven't posted the tint pics. Getting the camera and downloading to PC and uploading to site is a bit of work. I'll see if I can do something this weekend. I wouldn't be too worried about tinting. It'll look good on your DSM.

I love that video and the way she dances. I watch it at least once a week. I've been meaning to DL that la furtuda video, have you seen it?

So I started work on my stereo system this past weekend. Just dnyo-matted the hatch area. While I had the
opportunity I took some pics of the car with windows tinted. I would of posted them sooner but I couldn't
upload them for some reason. The car has 22% tint on all windows except the moon roof and the winshield.

These pics give you an idea of how dark the tint is, They were all taken in direct sunlight.

These pics are show the areas where they tinted over the dots. If you look closely You can see a very slight
discoloration on these areas. This is actually difficult to see unless you're looking for it. It looked
horrible right after the guy was done tinting it, but he said it would even out in a couple days. He also
said that in a couple of days I could run my fingers over it and the tint would probably stick. So I did
that on one spot that was very noticable and it now looks as it does in the pics. I thought the pics would come out better in direct sunlight but The pics of the tinted over dots might have come out better in the garage. I'll get these next time I work on the stereo.

On the next pic I'm not sure what those spots on the left side of the dotted area are, but they are not defects in the tint.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/365194top_back_window.jpg

I put this pic up to show you how much you can see through the back window, but it is kind of deceiving. It
appears much darker if looked at in person.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/365194tint_back.jpg

In this pic You can see where the guy tinted over the dots on the side back window.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/365194side_tint.JPG

Overall I think it came out very nice, If you are going to get your windows tinted I definitely recommend tinting over the dots, especially if you are going pretty dark. I don't think it would look good with an untinted strip at the top. My friend also tinted over the dots in his mustang. The tinter put a layer of vinyl over those areas, so there's another option.

Looks good! I also recommend tinting over the dot matrixes. On my 35/20 it makes a difference. You can't even tell there were dots on the rear quarter window on mine, but the rear has the top strip looking just like yours.

Looks good, Cliff. Suppose it all depends on finding a competent tinter. Saw a Nighthawk Type S with ridiculous tint that just about blended with the paint. Couldn't have been legal but it looked great.

Thanx for the compliments on the tint job. In my previous post, the picture where I pointed out the dark spots on the left side of the dotted area. When looking at it more closely I realized that the dark spots are where the tint actually stuck completely. So I tryed running my fingers over the tint to see if I could stick it to the glass better and got mixed results. It created more of the slight discoloration in the other pics so I just left it alone. I hope I didn't discourage anyone from getting their windows tinted. The discoloration isn't noticable unless you really get up close to it.

Hah some people have 5% tints on top of 5% tints all around. That's nuts.

Jeeeezz, was he/she a vampire? That much tint would probably stop gamma radiation. I'd have to set up cameras and tvs to see outside of the car.

Here are some crappy pics I took in the garage of the tint. Please don't comment on the angles. There's hardly any room in there with a Grand Caravan on the other side!!! Also, it's a bit dark in there and the tint looks a lot darker than it is. Just compare to the front window. After I get around to washing the car, I'll take better pics in sunlight.

There's a white towel in the right back seat just to give you an idea of how dark it is.

AND for those of you that requested it - A pic of the Grand Caravan SPORT just washed and waxed! Yes, yes, I did wax the RSX last weekend, but it rained during the week before I was able to take pics!

BTW - The Caravan has to go back to the shop since the driver's power window broke after we got it back last week!!! My 2cents - If you buy a Dodge/GM make sure you get an extended bumper to bumper warranty!!! Otherwise if you can afford it, get a Sienna or Oddysey!
