hard startingwackydac 09-23-2005, 02:16 AM Have problem starting 1985 Monte.Gas must be poured in carb on first start of the dayAfter that starts up every time. This happned like over night.Car was starting every morning then one day not(bam).Iv'e thought, fuel pump, bowl leaking, float level. As I write this a brainstorm has occured(rare in this brain)on the fourm I saw a thread for problem with fuel tank restricior and it jogged my memory to an event. It seems when I installed a new locking gas cap(to protect my 1.79 a gallon gas of course now 3.00 and soon to be 5.00 a gallon $#&%@!&$)it was at the same time this starting problem starting happing. There were two types of caps for this car it did not say which one was right except vented or prevented.Do you think its possible that the cap could be causing the problem. corning_d3 09-27-2005, 09:54 PM On a new vehicle it will. If that year model has evaporative emissions, i'd say the cap is the problem. The accelerator pump diaphragm may have ruptured, too. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
