Do Coil Springs Wear Out???novagard 09-22-2005, 08:45 AM Have a 95 JGC with 205 K miles. Over the past two years I have replaced all tie-rods and steering linkage and recently new shocks. Front end still feels squirrelly......especially at LOW speeds over washboard bridge decks, etc. Only thing I have never considered was the coil springs. They are not broken or cracked. But do they actually wear out after 200K miles?????? CapeFear562 09-26-2005, 01:49 PM some people say that coil do begin to sag as they get older, but i doubt that is the problem in your case. If you refer to the large amount of play in the steering wheel, then it may be due to either the power steering fluid is low, worn out joints in the steering setup, but it is probably due to the steering shaft joint wearing out. In my 79 f250, the u-joint in the steering shaft almost completely worn out. My brother works in a machine shop so he built me a new steering shaft and the truck drove better than it ever had. The steering seemed tighter and more responsive, but there are a lot of parts within the steering setup that cause a loose feeling and these are only suggestions of what to look for. The best thing i can say is have someone sit in the drivers seat and turn the wheel back and forth while you look for any parts that are moving and shouldn't be. Hope this help you out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
