Hurricane who?? *PICS*HanibalTheCannibal 09-20-2005, 11:20 PM Well, They are in mandatory evacuations an hour north of me :disappoin for Hurricane Rita. Our city managers are meeting to discuss evacuation of our city (Victoria TX). You should have seen the city today, there was a mad rush on plywood, gas etc. I received so many Generator repair calls that its not even funny, I am gonna spend tomorrow raking in service calls, then thur & fri to get ready. I posted several pics when Hurricane Claudette passed directly over Victoria (2003). I am far to risky when it comes to storms, so look out for some amazing pics on this thread friday and saturday.. I will bring you the real story, forget FOX and NBC :loser: PS We are 50' above sea level, so there shouldnt be any rooftop stuff going on here, I hope  See current radar loops here: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/gmex-wv-loop.html Rollingbones 09-20-2005, 11:36 PM I really hope you and everyone down else down there comes through it OK. My sister lives in Palacios, TX. It's pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Gulf Coast, south of Galviston... smack dab in the sites of this one. The not so funny thing about that is my sister's name is Rita!!! I can't help but worry and I hope she's on her way somewhere safe. kenwood guy 09-20-2005, 11:39 PM im looking forward to the TRUTH!!!! take care of you truck as it will help you rake in the dough I find amazing that some people can benfit from something as bad as that storm heading your way good luck HanibalTheCannibal from kenwood guy HanibalTheCannibal 09-20-2005, 11:46 PM 7 Computer models put the center of the storm right through Pt. Lavaca on friday evening (5 miles from Palacios). With an eye 40 miles wide, and hurricane force winds stretching out 150+ miles, its anybody's guess. Last time that a CAT5 happened here (Carla 1961), we had 150+MPH "sustained" winds here where I am at. It is gonna be a long weekend even it gets within 200miles to us. I think they are evacuating Palacious tomorrow (Mandatorily) along with several other places. This thing may veer anywhere by then, but they are getting pretty good with these forecasts last few years. They were within 50 miles 4 days in advance with Katrina forecasts, So I am not so quick to blow off these warnings. I will post an update on our evac situation (as well as palacios) tomorrow at 2pm CDT kenwood guy 09-20-2005, 11:52 PM I always thought the "eye" was the calmest part of the storm??? HanibalTheCannibal 09-20-2005, 11:56 PM im looking forward to the TRUTH!!!! rake in the dough. I find amazing that some people can benfit from something as bad as that storm heading your way. from kenwood guy ??? I have lived and worked here in this town for 30+ years. I hope you are not implying that I would take advantage of my community because of a storm AND because of my trade!?!. I have been providing reliable electrical services to my friends and community as a contractor for over 5 years. I am an asset to the citizens of my community and even prevent them from having to use out-of-town scam artists during an event like this. FYI: I helped some local elderly couples get electrical service when even our city "engineers" couldnt do it after Hurricane Claudette, And I busted my ass and did it for next to nothing (less than gas money for a week), so DO NOT assume you know my angle, because I am in the business of electrical distribution. Of course if you were "NOT" implying this, than kindly disregard my flame. :naughty: TexasF355F1 09-20-2005, 11:57 PM Yea man it's getting nuts. Here in Houston, I went to Sam's Club around 11 this morning, my gosh it was a mad house. I had to search to find the 16oz. bottles of water and there were only a few left. Completely out of C and D batteries (but almost endless supply of AA's). The worst thing about this whole storm is I'm in my friends wedding this weekend....at least we're hoping it's going to happen. He and I aren't stressin', but I can only imagine his fiance freaking. Let's just think positive and hope for the best. Let Texas show Lousiana and everyone else (well except Florida, they've got it down pat) you how to properly prepare their cities and residents for a Hurricane. Rollingbones 09-21-2005, 12:00 AM Thanks, I appreciate that. Be careful yourself!!! kenwood guy 09-21-2005, 12:03 AM ??? I have lived and worked here in this town for 30+ years. Of course if you were "NOT" implying this, than kindly disregard my flame. :naughty: if you ask me I would do the same thing plan and simple however I do belive that places like home depot and lowes and other hardware stores are benfiting from this dont you agree???? why dont they just give there stuff for a discount price or for free????? do they????? HanibalTheCannibal 09-21-2005, 12:06 AM if you ask me I would do the same thing plan and simple however I do belive that places like home depot and lowes and other hardware stores are benfiting from this dont you agree???? why dont they just give there stuff for a discount price or for free????? do they????? Oh yeah, I definitely agree. So far the businesses here are great, I never charge higher for service calls during an emergency like these. I usually charge way less due to the circumstances. Its good for business to do these things. There are a few "NON-U.S." owned gas stations and businesses that gouge and people know it and they are called on by federal authorities. Its sad. Yes They are usually foreigners of some kind or another. The real American's and their businesses "usually" stand out and do the right thing. 99redsilverado 09-21-2005, 01:09 AM I always thought the "eye" was the calmest part of the storm??? the eye is the calmest part, almost unreal how calm it is...BUT the eyewall is the worst part..... hope everyone is safe down there, i got family in pensacola, it looks like i might be going down there to help if it turns north at all..... BlenderWizard 09-21-2005, 07:46 AM My sister lives in Houston. I talked to her last night, and she and her family have hotel reservations in Dallas for the weekend. jers99z 09-21-2005, 08:00 AM Well i want to wish all affected by this storm the best of luck, and hopefully there are not any great losses. I myself have been waiting for these two storms coming at Hawaii. I heard today that the one is going to miss us by 325 miles(roughly) Im not to sure about the second one but hopefully it misses too. Well again best of luck to all affected. jeverett 09-21-2005, 09:10 AM Rain rain go away..........:D kenwood guy 09-21-2005, 02:44 PM the eye is the calmest part, almost unreal how calm it is...BUT the eyewall is the worst part..... hope everyone is safe down there, i got family in pensacola, it looks like i might be going down there to help if it turns north at all..... you know I have never seen film on someone in the eye of the storm or even the eye wall why is that????? here in california we are feeling small affects of hurricane max down in the eastern pacific which brought a seres of thunder storms and sudden down pours of rain nothing big however HanibalTheCannibal 09-21-2005, 04:43 PM I was in the eye of hurricane claudette, it passed directly over our section of the county. It got calm and sunny. The ONLY fatality was from a woman who emerged from her home during the eye passage, and was struck by a flying tree limb when wind gusted to 90+MPH within a minute. It is really weird. UPDATE:**2:30PM Sept 21. MANDATORY evacuations for my county (Victoria) also for Matagorda, Calhoun, Bee, Dewitt, Lavaca. Ahead of Hurricane Rita, with sustained winds of 165MPH. 000 WTNT63 KNHC 211955 TCUAT3 HURRICANE RITA TROPICAL CYCLONE UPDATE NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 255 PM CDT WED SEP 21 2005 DATA FROM RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT RITA HAS REACHED CATEGORY FIVE INTENSITY WITH ESTIMATED MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS OF 165 MPH. THIS WILL BE REFLECTED IN THE 4 PM CDT ADVISORY. FORECASTER AVILA SEE CURRENT INFRARED MAPS IN MOTION OF HURRICANE RITA HERE: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/gmex-wv-loop.html (Click on "trop frcst pts" on top of map to see expected landfall points. Note the forecasted eyewall is plotted is on Victoria/Calhoun county line) jethro_3 09-21-2005, 07:22 PM I was told today that I am "Critical Personal" and I will be available to emergancy with 1/2 hour notice.... I live just a few HUNDRED miles inland and they are talking all leave slips revoked and immediate termination if you don't report for work. "Water is a Priviledge not a right..." Shit, wastewater, still flows down stream even if it is not in the pipe..... I work for the government, City of Austin. Rollingbones 09-21-2005, 08:32 PM My sister is on her way to Austin. Her home in Palacios is quite literally in the cross hairs of Rita (my sister's name is Rita..how ironic). Since all the lumber was sent to LA and MS, there's nothing available to board up the house. She expects to be completely wipped out...no home...no job!!! That's a cluster-f^(#!!!! At least her and my bro-in-law will be getting out safely. You can replace "stuff", but you can't replace your sister!!! broughy84 09-21-2005, 09:14 PM I was told today that I am "Critical Personal" and I will be available to emergancy with 1/2 hour notice.... Shit, wastewater, still flows down stream even if it is not in the pipe..... I work for the government, City of Austin. Are you a wastewater operator too??? I am a water and wastewater operator. What I small world, I have a DSL and a WWTP Class 2. jethro_3 09-21-2005, 10:12 PM I am the go to person when the Engineers, contractors, cutomers and crews need information, answers, resources and clarification. I know the W & WW system and people call all hours to get things resolved. We have 1100 people in our utility and an avg dist is 135 MGD and treat 100 MGD. But I don't go inside the plant or operate the lift or pump stations. Our group gets called out to be the point of control/contact when the shit hits the fan in the field... pun intended :spit: . HanibalTheCannibal 09-21-2005, 10:22 PM I actuallr obbed the plywood from my garage walls to board up the windows. I am preparing to leave tomorrow if it stays on track to hit as a CAT5. If it veers north as a CAT3, I will stay. There are no hotel rroms available in texas, people are having to go far as OK, NM, AZ to get a good solid place to stay. Most people I talk to are scared of shelters after what they saw from Katrina. I tend to concur with them, I will drive and drive untill I see a hotel with vacancy. Man there are so many circular saws and hammers going after dark here in my neighborhood, its very ominous. EVen my cats are acting weird. The kids were a little nervous about me boarding them inside the house LOL. See you all in the morning!!! Rollingbones 09-21-2005, 10:46 PM Good Luck Hannibal!!! Hope you, your family and your home come through it OK. Here in Sacramento I'm a member of CERT (Community Emer. Response Team)....and they're all freaking out about the levy's along the Sacramento and American River!!! After all, it might "rain" here this winter. jethro_3 09-21-2005, 11:00 PM Hannibal, let me know if you need a place, empty house here... Least I can to do help out a fellow Silverado owner.... kenwood guy 09-21-2005, 11:40 PM Hannibal, let me know if you need a place, empty house here... Least I can to do help out a fellow Silverado owner.... Good man bigbadram51 09-22-2005, 01:32 AM My brother lives in Houston, is actually moving into his new house in Magnolia which is north of Houston, from his house southwest of houston. He said he is staying the course. Lets all hope the thing loses some strength. GOOD LUCK TO ALL DOWN THERE AND BE SAFE. HanibalTheCannibal 09-22-2005, 10:06 AM Well, there is some good news (for us in Victoria anyway) That a direct hit now looks imminent for galveston (within 30 Na. Miles) That is a shift if 75 miles from previous forecast track, so it will still get ugly here. I have a few more things to do around the house, then I will monitor latest track. We may be riding this one out here. Considering there are NO hotel rooms in Texas, even in southern OK the rooms are scarce. Thanks Jethro3, I may need to take you up on that!! I will check back in here as long as power is on and I have Network access. Pics will start friday evening when the tropical storm force winds are epected to begin. 000 WTNT43 KNHC 220843 TCDAT3 HURRICANE RITA DISCUSSION NUMBER 19 NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 5 AM EDT THU SEP 22 2005 IF RITA HAS NOT PEAKED IN INTENSITY...IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS PRETTY CLOSE TO DOING SO. THE LATEST CENTRAL PRESSURE ESTIMATED FROM RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT DATA IS 897 MB...WHICH SHOWS LITTLE CHANGE DURING THE PAST 8 HR. THE MAXIMUM FLIGHT-LEVEL WINDS SO FAR ARE 165 KT IN THE NE EYEWALL...WHICH IS ONLY SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE 161 KT OBSERVED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE AIRCRAFT DATA SHOWS A INCREASINGLY STRONG OUTER WIND MAXIMUM THAT IS LIKELY THE START OF A CONCENTRIC EYEWALL CYCLE...AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SINCE THE END OF THE ECLIPSE PERIOD SHOWS WARMING OF THE CONVECTION NEAR THE CENTER. BASED ON ALL OF THIS...THE INITIAL INTENSITY REMAINS 150 KT. RITA HAS TURNED A LITTLE TO THE RIGHT DURING THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS AND THE INITIAL MOTION IS NOW 285/8. RAWINSONDE DATA SHOWS A STRONG MID-LEVEL RIDGE CENTERED OVER TEXAS. LARGE-SCALE MODELS FORECAST THIS RIDGE TO SHIFT EASTWARD INTO THE SOUTHEASTERN STATES AND THE EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO DURING THE NEXT 48 HR. THIS SHOULD ALLOW RITA TO TURN MORE NORTHWARD WITH TIME. THE TRACK GUIDANCE IS NOW CLUSTERED AROUND A LANDFALL BETWEEN THE SABINE RIVER AND MATAGORDA TEXAS IN 48-60 HR...WITH A NET EASTWARD SHIFT OF THE GUIDANCE SINCE THE LAST PACKAGE. THE NEW FORECAST TRACK IS ALSO SHIFTED EASTWARD ABOUT 30 N MI...CALLING FOR LANDFALL NEAR THE BOLIVAR PENINSULA AND GALVESTON BAY. HOWEVER...IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE NEW TRACK IS ALONG THE LEFT OR WEST SIDE OF THE ENVELOPE OF GUIDANCE. jethro_3 09-22-2005, 11:16 AM Hanibal, read your PM's for my cell.
