I have an 87 GTI 16 Valve 5 speed i rebuilt. Works wonderfully. 2 problems though.
1. Installing a new radio, and when i hook everything up with the wireing harness the new radio i install will only open the face, and let me insert and eject CD's. wont turn on or anything. I think the problem is the wire on the end of the origion VW plug for the power wires (not the speakers) i cut off because i thought i was goig to hard wire it, but ended up getting the harness, and trying to do a novice job of putting the wires back in the plug. that sucked. anywho it looks like they all have a good connection. there's red, brown, grey and blue wires. not sure what going on though.

2 suspendion. What is the best way to stiffen up a GTi's suspension? If i got coil spacers would that stiffen it up? what do you guys suggest. and also can i lower the car a bit? I really dont want to spend the dough on the suspension. the rebuild cost me more than the car is worth, but i love this car. THANK YOU!

VW used two power wires to the radio, one hot all the time & one hot with key in run position only. Coil spacers are cheap, but don't work that well & can give an exceptionally harsh ride. Perhaps bigger sways bar would give the desired effect, they're easier to install.

is of the VW wires is the constant and witch is the ignition.

how much would sway bars run me, and how difficult the install.
