RX questions and Apex seals myth?

Hey guys. I am thinking I am going to sell my 95 Nissan 240SX so that I can buy a second gen RX-7. I was just wondering if the apex seals go bad on the rotories as fast as everyone has told me. Is that a must in order for me to boost a little higher and add mods? Or is this just a rumor that I heard? Also, if any of you have experience with both nissan's and RX-7's, would you do the same as me and pick an RX over and S14? Or would you stick with the S14? If you pick the RX, then what are some benefits over the S14 (keep in mind it will be a daily driver/weekend drift car). Sorry if any of these questions are retarded. Im just trying to learn more about the RX's as I am beginning to fall in love with them the more I look at them. Thanks guys.

it lasts as long as you treat the motor well. im not too sure about the s14, but i do own an rx7 and a s13, i'd say that with the rx7 (depending on trim) you give up on some comfort to the nissan but its a much better drivers car. and theres less that needs to be done to it, you can buy a car thats stock turbo, as opposed to the engine swap or bolt on turbo, most models ofthe Fc came with a lsd stock (early ones were clutch, later were viscous).

but if your looking at it as a drift car, the weight distribution and shorter wheelbase (much shorter if were talking a s14) will contribute to the car swapping ends faster. also to note the rear can be alittle hard to get out because of the rear suspension design (DTSS), which changes the toe curve during cornering (toe out at turn in, and toe in thru the rest).
and the other major point on the fc is that the steering angle isnt nearly as great as on the s chassis cars.

do you plan to modify it heavily?

Well, I plan to modify it as long as I own it. So I guess by the time im done it will be heavily modded.

Also, how much does a stock T II put down? I wonder if I would be better off turboeing my S14.

There is no set lifespan on an apex seal. Detonation will KILL them.
There are cars out there running the 2mm apex seals hitting singel digit 1/4 miles while others are poping motors.
RE only uses 2mm seals (makes you think).
If you do plan on running high boost i suggest the 3mm as they are mor rugged and will take more detonation than the 2mm's will. But they still do break so treat the car nice.

As for a drift car, they are fun :D
I spent all of last night beatin on one of my FC's with a bunch of buddies (not the one in the pic, its far to nice for that type of punishment).
As for swaping ends easier, true. But if you are already experanced its not all the difficult to pick up. Just practice for a day and you got it.

A buddy of mine knows a guy who used to work for mazda, and suposedly, the way the exhaust ports are set up on the rotories, it is better to beat on them a bit because id you were just driving them like a grandma, then the carbon builds up real good and it gets old even faster. So basically he is saying that it is better to get one that hasn't been babied. I have no idea weather this is true or not, its just what I heard. You guys probably know from experience though if it isnt true.

IS there any way to prevent this? Because I own a 91' RX-7, and I want to have some fun with it but not abuse it.

I redline my buddies NA FC, and it loves it, just loves it, she purrs, it's her song to sing when she hits 8000rpm.

Have had no real issues with the motor (knock on wood) we just, treat it right and let her give the world hell at 8k.
