unusual blower fan solution, 1995 Olds 88

1995 Olds 88 - the blower fan was shutting down when the speed was changed from high, so changed the relay (3rd from passenger side, 5 wires) since this was a common symptom of relay failure. No change, so put a volt meter on the fan connector and found that all fan speeds were sending voltage to the fan connector - sometimes.

After looking behind the glove box at the visible wiring, I slammed the glove box closed, and the blower started. After eliminating the HVAC-fan switch-rear defrost module mounted in the dash as the bad connector source, started removing the covers under the dash to get to the wiring. When I pushed on the screw where the two lower covers overlap, located to the right of the steering wheel, the blower started and would stop when the upward pressure was released.

The problem was the wires coming down from the HVAC-fan switch module to the front of the 3 inch square wiring block located above where the lower covers overlap, were pulled too tight. After giving the harness some slack, all speeds work.
