I own a 96 Monte carlo with a 3400 swapped in! I have been putting alot of proformance parts on like P&P heads, intakes, and TB FWI waiting on exhaust. I also have LS1 valve springs UD pulley Custom DHP PCM...yad yad yad. Well needless to say I popped my trans (4T60e)

I was able to aquire a 02 SS 4T65e trans with 15k on it for cheap, I wanted to put this in to my car seeing it can handle more power then the 60e! I know it is possible but I'm not quiet sure on the exacts about it. I am able to Program my PCM ( but only the 96 monte PCM) with what ever table needed!

I have done some research on it and all I have come up with is a complete rewiring of the engine bay with 02 SS Harnesses. Now I don;t know if that is the only way it can be done. So here in lies my question!

How do I go about swapping these trannies? Does anyone have a link for a site that will have a walk though? Even someone I can convers with about it?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Shoulda swapped a 3800 in there, the 3400 will have a tough time against the 3800. I thought the 4t65e was not used with the 3100/3400 combo, check the bell housing pattern to yours.

I have dropped many L36s with my monte so I'm not worried about that so much! And the bell housing pattern is the same as the 60e! It would just come down to the wiring. And maybe more, that is the part where I'm not sure!

And the combo is used in the 6th gens! But I have a programmer for the 96 only and don't want to pay for another program from DHP in order to program my PCM! But the more I look this does seem to be the only way to acheive this!

I just hope someone out there has gone above and beyond on there monte, and knows how to do this or has seen it done somewhere else!

They have some good info/specs on all 3.1, 3.4, 3100, 3400, and 3800 series II and S/C'd engines and transmission combos. Also have some good info on changing ratios in the transaxle.
