Multi-function switch

Does anybody know how to hotwire the MFS connector to see if the car will start? Thanks!

The multifunction switch on the trans isn't directly used for starting, rather a signal from the TCM grounds the starter relay. If you truly suspect the MF switch isn't sensing signal to the TCM check to see if you have reverse lights. Otherwise suspect the P/N relay. I assume the starter works if you run a postive jumper to the small black/red wire on the solenoid.

I replaced the P/N Relay and that did'nt fix the problem. The car turns over with the key but it won't start. I don't think it's getting any fire. The gear indicator on the shifter console says is in "D" at all times. The shift cable is connected and functioning properly. I was thinking that a mal-functioning MF switch could prohibit spark from getting to the plugs according to what I have read previously here @ AF. Tha P/N switch you mention, is that inside the tranny?

Also, I do have reverse lights.

I don't believe this would affect the spark. A bit strange that the indicator is in D as the TCM must be sending signal it's in P or N for the starter relay to work. If you pull the distributor electrical connector & turn ignition to on, do you get 12V between the outer two pins on the connector?

Boschman, I don't have the distributor and have the coil pack. It's a 94 VR6.

Roger, diid that. I don't have the plug lead tool to remove the lead from the plug so I connected my spark tester between one of the leads and the coil pack connection. No spark detected. Also, I ordered and installed a new ECM relay, fuel pump relay(still not sure if I can hear the pump running when I turn the key to on) and X-contact relay. Still no spark.

I don't have a spark plug wire tool for this car so I put my spark tester between one of the plug leads and the coil pack and could not detect any spark when the car turns over.

Gear indicator on the dash still say the car is in 'D' Drive when it is actually in park.

I have replaced the transmission multi-function switch, ECM relay, Fuel pump relay and the X-contact relay.

Reverse lights are working as is all the electronics on the car.

Car turns over fine but won't run and there doesn't appear to be any spark going to the plugs.

Coil packs are common to fail.
