I 1st noticed this sound when accelerating yesterday, I opened the hood & pulled on the throttle cable, & the noise sounds like there's a hole somewhere?

With the engine just idling, I hear a very noticeable sound which I describe as something very loose being banged around! The sound is coming from the power steering pump area. When I place my hand on the steering pump, it feels as if something is jumping around in there! This sound starts & stops every few seconds, but it sounds as if there's a hole somewhere everytime the throttle cable is pulled!

Any ideas? '98 Jeep GC 4.0

Remove the Sepentine Belt and Turn the Power Steering Pump and see if it makes any noise, also turn the Altenator and water Pump to see if any one of those are making the noise. You might want to start the motor with the belt off to make sure it isnt something in the motor.

I changed the power steering pump & that was the culprit! I'm now having a little difficulty removing all of the air out! I tried having another person turn the steering wheel left & right repeatedly while I watched the fluid level, but it still makes noise when turning while in park? Everything is fine when I'm driving!

Is there another way to remove the air after replacing the power steering pump?
