I was wondering would a stock 3sgte block support a garrett GT Series turbo gt28rs or gt30r? or would I have to rebuild the lower end of the engine, also finding a 3sgte block by itself is almost impossible, if anyone knows where I can find one please let me know thanks!!

It depends on what level of boost your going to run.

I was planning on putting 15 to 20 pounds of boost I heard that the 3sgte would support like 25 pounds easily stock, is that true?? Still lookin for that block

No it wont.....the intarnals on the 3stge block will run happily up to 1.2bar which is 17.404 pounds per square inch. anything above that and its bye bye pistons/rings head gasket or whatever goes pop first, it may not go straight away, but it wont last long. (standard setting is 13.05 P/SI). The block itself will put up with alot more PSI, i`ve seen some rediculous amounts of boost pumped into a 3sgte engine, but with very modified internals, and in some cases strenghtened piston walls.Getting hold of an engine should be easy...just import one over, there is a warehouse in japan with literaly hundreds of used 3sgte engines sat in it just waiting to be exported send em some $$$$ and they`ll send you one i`m sure.

ok thanks for that info, for the type of boost I am looking for what pistons and rods should I get, basically what should I rebuild the lowerendwith.

Depends on the amount of $$$ you wanna spend, check out www.fensport.co.uk for some good forged internals, then look for something similar closer to where you live.
I recon you could run 1.5 bar (21.75 PSI) quite happily with a full bottom end rebuild and still keep things reliable.

nialusa, check out jekleandhyde over in the mr2 boards, his 3sgte is running 25 psi of boost and it has over 190,000 miles on it and it has a bone stock shortblock

2nd gen 3sgte run 10psi stock
3rd gen runs just under 1 bar of boost

youd be able to run 15 psi no problem on a stock 3sgte, you wouldnt be able to go over that unless you upgraded the fuel system and turbo

forged everything, forged pistons and forged rods...i would look into upgrading the turbo/ and or fuel system before rebuilding the lower end
