My 89 Escort Vista will NOT startelredmon1 09-16-2005, 09:45 PM My 89 Escort quit midstream going down the road. It won't turn over and I can't push start it using the clutch. Is it my fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel anything? Could someone please tell me what might be the problem and where to start. :) I mean how to get it going again. :banghead: Davescort97 09-16-2005, 10:49 PM If it won't turn over and you can't push start it using the clutch it sounds like MAJOR engine damage. I hope I'm wrong. Do the simple things first. Check to see if the timing belt is broken. The clutch switch allows the starter to only turn over when it is depressed. It should start with a push and a clutch release in 2nd gear. Put a socket on the main pulley and see if it will turn over. If it won't the engine is siezed up. I don't think your problem has anything to do with fuel. Good luck. I hope I'm wrong about the engine being siezed up. chevyn0va1 09-17-2005, 07:10 AM My 89 Escort quit midstream going down the road. (which is what I'm thinking you mean). I agree with davesescort check the timing belt and the other simple stuff see if its got spark see if it gets fuel. One quick way to check if the t belt is still there is pull your oil cap off and have someone turn the key to crank the motor over (not intending to start it just to bump it). Then look and see if the lifters are moving. if not then its your t/bellt vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
