When turning you can hear a noise almost like a knocking noise coming from the wheels. Hard to place exactly what it is. Checked the lug nuts to see if they were all tight and they were. Also FYI. Just had new tires put on and just started to recognize the noise since. Any ideas? 03cavPA 09-17-2005, 06:53 AM Check the CV joints. Very common wear item in front drive vehicles. Joe_Cool97 09-17-2005, 09:31 AM yea sounds like your cv joints Sagan33 09-18-2005, 12:54 AM I have the exact same cavalier and it does the same thing. I just bought it so I dunno what it is exacty. Appleton post on here if you figure it out and I'll post if I figure it out also. But I had my cv joints looked at and all seemed to be ok. My buddy has a 90 grand am that does the same thing...He has had it checked out time and time again, changed the cv joints and all, and it still does it. I dunno it's weird!!! Sagan33 09-18-2005, 02:16 AM Can you tell which side it is knocking from? Mine is from the passengers side. cousincletus 09-18-2005, 08:03 AM Try lubing the slip joint on the steering column intermediate shaft. mike dumar 09-18-2005, 01:32 PM the car in question, is my car. Sagan that is exactly the same side where my noise is coming from aside from sound, what other signs would i notice if it were to be a cv joint ? upon a quick visual look, the cv joint boot looks to be in good condition something i came across last night while surfing the net, that i might try You could have a loose caliper mounting bolt (figure A). These bolts can back off if you do not have a permanent adhesive like Lock Tight what is disturbing about the situation, is that the sound did not occur until new tires were recently installed. I thought perhaps they did not balance the tire right, so i did a tire rotation, and still the problem occurs chevboy 09-18-2005, 03:13 PM Your Problem Is very common it is a strut mount bearing what happens is your strut turns itself into into the rusted bearing thus making knocking noise everytime you turn Mod'd_Cav 09-18-2005, 03:17 PM you guys ever try checking the bearings on the strut mounts..the seals could be worn out..especially on a 98 and now every time you turn your pulling the spring with it...if you can stay parked and when you turn the wheel it makes a loud clunking/knocking sound then try this...jack your car up from the frame..not the wheels..but make sure both sides are lifted off the ground..now that both sides are on jack stands..turn your wheels again..if the sound goes away its the strut mounts..if its still there its your CV joints mike dumar 09-19-2005, 10:04 AM sound only occurs, when im up past third gear, and when its a slight turn under third gear i dont hear it thanks for everyones help so far Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
