2002 Grand CHerokee 4x4 with Selec-Trac

When shifting between 2WD and 4WD full-time, i find it getting stuck inbetween in the 4WD part-time. Whats the proper way to shift the transfer case? What do you do if it gets stuck inbetween?

Any help is appreciated.

Your owner's manual probably says to give a firm pull into gear. When going from 2wd to 4full-time, it's a pretty easy pull. When going from 4full time to 4part time, make sure you're not on pavement or other surface that gives a lot of traction. A firm pull should work here also.

For going from 4part time to 4lo, you should be moving no faster than 3-5 mph, have the transmission in neutral. Pull smoothly into 4lo (it will grind slightly). Once engaged, put the trans back in gear and start having fun.

Reverse procedure for going 4lo-4part-4full.

(This ignores any binding you may have due to alignment problems....if the shifting problems continue have a look at the alignment of the trans, tc, and drivelines.)
