please help! 1981, needs a better carburetor, gift for boyfrienddumbgirlfriend 09-15-2005, 08:31 PM hey, my boyfriend has a 1981 monte carlo with "1981-82 All Trans 267"-4.4 L. Eng DualJet W/Electric Choke" i honestly dont know what that means (i looked it up online). anyway he wants to upgrade his carburetor and im going to buy it for him. he doesnt know im doing it, its for our anniversary so i cant get his take on it. he knows how to put it in himself so im not worried about that. i just need advice on what i should get, he wants to make his car faster. any advice on that, or maybe something else i could get for his car please message me or something! thanks soo much brucedana 09-16-2005, 02:27 AM I have an 1980 Monte.I did have the same engine. The 4.4 267 is not a good performance engine. The good thing is a 267 on the outside is the same size as a 350.All the parts on the outside will fit a 350 even the trans and motor mounts are the same. What i'm trying to say is anything you do on the outside of this engine you can keep and later on use it on a 350 engine. What I would do in the long run would put a short block 350 engine in.A short block means it is just a block with all the internals but not the outside parts. If you buy a short block they are much cheeper then buying a complete engine. And you can switch everything over. And be alot faster. You could go even with a 305.I'm sorry back to what you were looking for.I would say right now he has a 2b carburetor.Switch that for a 4b carburetor. And you get alot more. But you would have to buy a 4b intake to mount the carburetor. But remeber what but now he can use later. On the carburetor, I would go with a Elderbrock 600 cfm and as for an intake Eldebrock rpm intake. They work very well together.Thats if you go with a 4b carburetor and intake switch. There really isn't much you can do with a 2b carburetor.Thats why I say make the switch. And later go with the 350 engine.I hope this helps. If you want you can e-mail me.My e-mail is in my profile.. GOOD LUCK!!! dumbgirlfriend 09-16-2005, 12:46 PM thanks a lot, he did say he wanted to get a 350... so i will definatly do that with the carburetor thanks so much i really appreciate it! Their staff might also be able to help you select a carb/manifold combination for the vehicle.
