gas milage on a 4.3kenwood guy 09-14-2005, 08:24 PM so far I have let the gas tank go a little before 1/2 before the last fill anyone got any idea what kind of gas milage I should be expecting out of my 4.3 and is it a little better then the v8's????? one thing for sure its a world better then my old 91 caprice that car was a true gas hog or pig or hippo!!!!....at least it feels that way I think it got to 250 miles may be less to run it empty from full BlenderWizard 09-14-2005, 08:28 PM Everyone I have talked to tells me it doesn't matter much what engine you have in one of these trucks, the mileage stays the same. Think of it as: "A vehicle has to burn X amount of gas to go Y miles." The 4.3l v6 would use less gas if the rest of the drivetrain were geared the same as on a v8, but everything is geared a little lower on the v6 models, so it raises the consumption back up to near v8 levels. kenwood guy 09-14-2005, 08:42 PM I notice you used the word "near" it would have to be a little better but not much mec 09-14-2005, 10:32 PM I'm getting 22mpg on the freeway (flat land) and 18.5 around town with my 99 4.3. BlenderWizard 09-14-2005, 10:43 PM I'm getting 22mpg on the freeway (flat land) and 18.5 around town with my 99 4.3. And that's good, but there are some who are getting nearly the same out their v8, especially your highway mileage kenwood guy 09-14-2005, 11:17 PM what if he nelson tuned his how much of a improvement should he expect??? nineball481 09-14-2005, 11:24 PM what if he nelson tuned his how much of a improvement should he expect??? If you want to know what mileage you are getting, just do the math. When you fill up, reset the tripometer. Run your tank down to atleast half (if you can run your tank close to empty, that would be better). Then fill up again and divide your mileage by the gallons of gas. voila you get your mileage. Do this a few times to get your average. Everyone has a different driving style, so a difference of a couple mpg between two people w/same vehicle is to be expected. Everytime you do a mod, you can check to see if it actually helped. kenwood guy 09-14-2005, 11:30 PM If you want to know what mileage you are getting, just do the math. Rollingbones 09-15-2005, 01:03 AM I had a '93 Superado with a V6 and a stick shift that I traded in for my '02 5.3. The '02 gets better miledge by 2-3 mpg...go figure??? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
