93 Camry Brakesjworm420 09-14-2005, 09:40 AM Ok, i just did a brake job on a 93 camry for this lady i work with... well my first problem is this... i pulled the drum off of the rear passanger wheel... pads where worn, nothing bad, changed them and put a new hardware kit in, which did not come with a new spur gear, which i thought was odd... well when i poped the drivers side rear drum off there was a part missing... the little lever that sits on the spur gear was not there! And there is one on the other side, well i called up autozone and they told me that part was not available for this car... Anybody elnse run into this problem ?.... And problem # 2... put new rotors and pads on the frong. well the driver side was easy to compress the piston and put pads on, the caliper sliped rite over the rotor with no problem... well the passanger side was a pain in the ass to compress and it was evry thing i could do to get the caliper to back over the new rotor, well i get evrything back together and drove it to work this am.... the front left caliper will not release from the rotor enough so it rubed allthe way here and i got that nasty burnt metal smell (like a burnt clutch)... So my question is.... is the caliper bad maybe ? or do i just need to pop the wheel off and adjust it ? or maybe its just a little sticky ? any way, ive dont alot of brake jobs and never had this problem, any advice would help. Orangecrate 09-14-2005, 04:46 PM On the front, it is likely that the two slider bolt tubes (covered with a rubber protector on each side) are stiff or frozen. If you're lucky you can take it apart again and work them back & forth to loosen them up. Otherwise you will probably have to cut off the rubber caps and clean the tubes and then install new rubber caps (make sure that you can get them first). I know the piece that you mean on the back but I have no idea where you could get one. Sounds like a junk yard part to me. You need a new caliper. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
