Possible Tachometer Problemcsmboy 09-13-2005, 11:13 PM My car is producing a strange buzzing noise accompanied by the on and off flashing of the ignition lights. The buzzing is somewhat sporadic, but occurs most often when the engine is running between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm's. The lights come on at initial ignition, stay on, then turn off at about 2,000 rpm's. They come back on sporadically, but (again) most commonly when decellerating below 2,000 rpm's. The book suggests that the drive belt may be loose, but an inspection of the belt shows the belt to be in good condition, and at the proper tension. There is a minor oil leak, but nothing unusual for an older engine. I can not find anything in a manual, or in any of the posts that describes what I am experiencing. Can anyone help? I am concerned that if it involves a mechanical tachometer, the computer may hinder engine start-up should the tach fail to function. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to offer.
