tranny for an 88 accord

a buddy of mine just got an 88 accord for 500 dollars from a friend of the family. only thing that's needing to be replaced is the transmission. it's an auto.
Buying a tranny isn't too much of the problem. my deal is what would it take to install one? and is it possible to diy?

i don't know alot about honda's. what engines came with the 88? and what kinda trannys?
