jetstar88 /w 455, headers wont go?00amunet00 09-13-2005, 12:58 PM I have a 65 olds jetstar88, the steering box is a little close to squeeze the headers on the 455. It really just seems like the arm itself is in the way. These boxes have the arm in the back rather than the front. Will any other steering box fit? I took a quick look at a 65 Impala, wich had a small block with headers, steering box looked to be differant, but I didnt get a good look. My other option was to modify the arm to a horse shoe shape to clear around the end of the header, but I'm not sure that would work out... Mines69Olds 09-13-2005, 01:14 PM Have you looked into getting another style of headers or maybe getting some custom headers. A 455 will produce a lot of heat which might not be that good for a steering box. MagicRat 09-20-2005, 10:15 PM Ouch....do not modify any steering component....that is dangerous. You can heat the whiz out of the offending header tube with an oxy/acetylene torch and bend/hammer it out of the way. You would be surprised at how easily tubes can be bent. If its just a bit of clearance needed, just whacking the cold tube with a hammer can work (its not too pretty, though. The majority of the header installations I have done have required such mods, and not just the custom stuff (Olds 455 in an '81 Caddy) but even when headers have gone in the chassis for which they were designed. 67ROCKETPOWER 02-08-2006, 09:34 AM Hello, Probably Time To Sell Those Headers On E-bay.... I Have Great News For You... If You Still Have The Original Manifolds They Actually Flow About As Good As Headers, And Having Duals Made Off Of Those Manifolds Isn't That Bad, And You Will Have A Better Sound From The Rear Of The Car With No Tinny Sound From Under The Hood.. I Have Seen Results Before And After Headers Were Installed In A Street Built 1968 455 And There Was No Power Increase, Just More Noise...
