New devil girl painting with step by step tut

So I got this commission recently which included a devil girl. So today I painted her up and snapped some progress pics for a tut.

So here goes...

First I found myself a good reference pic. Thank you google. I tried my hand at making up some devil girls but just couldnt nail one down, so I took the easy way out. First actual step is to sketch out the outline (or at least thats what I do)

Next is to fill in the details, including major line coundaries and contrasts. This is done with Stabilo grease pencil btw.

Now to painting. Im changing her to red because red > green.First I fill in the "bottom" color. I say bottom because as you paint, you have to layer colors, and to avoid shaky lines, you gotta figure out which lines will go over which other ones, so the top lines create a clean color seperation. Its hard to explain. Here's a super simplified example since that was probably worded way wrong and confusing. If your painting a girls ear, you would paint the skin first, and then an earing, since the earring is above the skin. Simple example, hope ya get it. :)

Next up I put the area in shadow. I made the darker red using Fire Red mixed with Lettering Black. Took a while to nail down a good shade but I finally got a decent one.

And the tongue...This green is a mix of one of my greens (cant remember the name) and some Lettering White.

Then the black. The hair, since it would be over the face, goes on last.

Next I add in the black outlines. Gotta be real careful to try and maintain a consisten thin line or else it looks funny and takes a lot of PITA work to fix it. Which I had to do a couple times on this piece. Specifically the eyebrow in this pic, waaaay to fat on the left side.

This one was a biggy. Added the highlights to the hair. Makes the piece more realistic than solid black hair. I used a technique I devised when I did the lady on my Cavys trunklid. I pour a little white on a magazine and let it sit for a couple minutes to tack up slightly, then I undlerload the brush for kind of a dry brush effect and just lay lines real quick. Gives the effect of individual hairs (I think). Also added the white in the eyes and teeth. Notice how effed up the teeth look, thats because I should have layed the white before the black outline. Had to fix that, which sucked.

Next was to clean up the teeth and add the eye lashes around the eyes. Also fixed the eyebrow I believe in this step.

And the final step and final product. Added the eyeballs. Originally the eyes were brown, but I like ice blue better. So I mixed some Reflex Blue and Lettering White for that shade. All thats left to do is add a little more black to the left eye cuz theres a bit too much blue. But other than that I just need to stripe it shoot the b/g and ship it out.

So thats it.

Supplies used-
-One Shot Enamel (Lettering Black, Fire Red, Green, White, Reflex Blue)
-Blue Stabilo pencil
-Lettering Brush
-Mineral Spirits
-A Rag

Total time of the project-
About an hour and a half

Let me know if you have any questions!

Great work, the pinstripes and background really make a fantastic layout.

Looks like there is metal flake in the background red, how you make it?
