I need to remove the glove compartment in my 99 CE (to get at wiring behind). I followed the stupid instructions in Haynes, and (a) broke off one of the stops, (b) broke the cord that stops it falling open with a bang, and (c) never did get it off anyway.

Has anyone with this model removed the glovebox? Can you give me some instructions)?

(Lord knows why a bought a Haynes - should've bought a Chiltons instead)

It wouldn't make much difference, Chiltons is owned by Haynes North America. The author of both Toyota manuals is the same guy Robert Maddox.

Maybe so. I'm basing my comment on past experience. I was using a (fat) Chiltons for my Honda Accord, and while I found it to be more like a shop manual than DIY, the detail (and accuracy) was better than I'm finding with Haynes. One skinny book for multiple models (Camry, Solara, Avalon & ES300) just doesn't work when you get into body and trim questions. Most of the illustrations are for the Avalon.

Yea, you get what you pay for. Toyota is great for clips in the strangest places, but it seems to work. Patience is a virtue, but is absolutely imperative with interior trim. I am still trying to figure out how to get the dash speedo molding off of my Avalon-the Haynes manual is somewhat misleading in this procedure also.
