They are separate units. Some people with Automatics use ATF, but I have stayed with GL4 in my standard as it doesn't corrode the brass fittings like GL5. Nissan didn't do anyone any favors by using a gear oil that is pretty hard to find. There are some synthetics like Royal Purple that are easier to get at Xterraparts.com or other stores. Our club bought a drum of the correct GL4 for members to use.
