She drove approx 10Ks from machanics workshop and boiling it's head off again, machanic had it trucked back to his workshop and tells us he dosn't know whats going on with it.

Welcome to the AF!

Did he replace the water hoses to radiator? They can be weak and the suction (bottom) hose collapse internally, starving the engine of coolant.

Some engines can have the head gaskets put on the wrong head - causing overheating because the coolant jackets no longer line up with the holes in the head gasket.

Old thermostat could have been in wrong - the new one duplicating the incorrect orientation.

Do you trust the guy? Can you be sure he replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator, etc.?

It's possible the head was not torqued correctly and the "boiling" you're seeing is from another blown head gasket, or a crack in the block/head. Get a compression test run and see if you've got good even compression on all cylinders.

Your combustion may be off (too lean) causing high temperature which the cooling system can not handle.

Sounds like your mechanic threw parts at a problem he finally admitted he couldn't and didn't diagnose. Did they scope the heads and the block for hairline cracks. Your valve timing could be to far advanced from base timing...etc. There may be more damage than before! I hope he warranteed his work and you get a qualified mechanic/dealer to fix it at his expense.

A couple thousand for a headgasket replacement...

Oughta cost $1200usd on a 100% striaght line mechanic, or $1500 if you let him change *everything* helpful while he's down there. Pumps, seals, everything.
